Rural mail carrier Capl Hirsch reports ongoing tampering with mail boxes on Route No. 1. Washington may send an inspector to identify culprits. Damaging mail boxes is illegal and violators may be prosecuted. Parents are urged to prevent children from tampering with the boxes to avoid serious trouble.
The High school showed works from manual training and sewing departments plus lower grade drawings maps and baskets. Recitations in music and mental arithmetic framed an engaging program followed by talks from President McCaskell of Superior Normal and President John Walsh of the city school Commission.

William Schriber of Virginia Minnesota was indicted for murder of neighbor Frank Masseport. He had come to Duluth after attempting to cash deposit certificates as the murdered man at Bayfield County Bank in Virginia. Wm Landraint and D M Maxcy identified him at the Minnesota hearing. trial began yesterday in Duluth with possible conviction.
A council meeting discussed a petition to ease access to Houghton Park by building a road from Houghton road. Citizens desire a direct path for day trips, noting the park’s beauty and proximity. Landowners reportedly consent to an easement, and the city should proceed promptly with construction.

A Beavers committee plans a subscription drive this week to fund the entry and hosting of the National Beavers convention in Washburn. About 400 delegates are expected with many bringing wives, possibly totaling around five hundred. The three day event begins June 17 and Washburn aims to entertain guests royally, boosting local advertising and civic pride.

One hundred nineteen years ago last Thursday George Washington was inaugurated president. Alvin Lowder hosted a small birthday gathering Wednesday at his Sixth street east home. Walter Finnegan arrived from Itasca after working in an elevator and broke his wrist.

H. J. Finstad spent Sunday visiting with friends in Mason, sharing time and conversation in a casual social gathering.
Articles of incorporation filed with the Secretary of State authorize the Twin Cities and Lake Superior Railway Company to build a line from the Twin Cities to the head of the lakes. Construction starts now and a northern end link between Grantsburg and Iron River is favored by many, with Ed L Peet of Grantsburg among the incorporators alongside G B Haugen Duluth F R Duxbury St Paul E Lewis Storm Lake Minn and Edward Henry Minneapolis.
The circuit court orders the city to drain water running down Third and Fourth Avenues. A sewer system from Bayfield Street to the Omaha railway and to the ravine to the lake is proposed at about a thousand dollars. Jake Stark, owner of adjacent land, sued to compel abatement and obtained an injunction.
