Washburn High School Again Accredited by University

Washburn High School is on the University of Wisconsin accredited list after a recent inspection by Prof. Smith of Madison. The inspector’s letter confirms the school maintains its approved status for another year, highlighting its strong northern Wisconsin program and longstanding University approval. Owen O Wiard, president of the Detective Association, will lecture in Washburn on March 28 at the Opera House with lantern slides, no admission charge, and another talk likely March 29 at Temperance Headquarters.

Bayfield County Eyes Five Member Board of Education

Bayfield County plans a spring election for a five member County Board of Education. Dr. F. G. Johnson of Iron River files for the post, with W. A. Parent of Cable and E. L. Delwiche of Ashland Junction already circulating petitions. Other candidates are expected. The board handles county level duties, omits teacher hiring, relieves state and county superintendents, and pays per diem and mileage with no salary.

Washburn High School lost 31 to 30 to Ashland Academy in a game played at the Opera House last Friday. Washburn led 19 to 10 at halftime amid crowd claims of biased officiating and six on Ashland.

Nebraska land buyer defeats local naysayers at Superior

A Nebraska land buyer, who recently priced land in the region, spoke to a Times man about his purchase west of the city. He said merchants and others tried to discourage him, but he would prove the land’s value despite critics. Corning youth admits breaking window after drinking

A sixteen year old, John Oberts, admitted breaking a Corning grocery store window while intoxicated. He promised to pay for the damage and was released. The incident follows concerns over illegal liquor sales to minors and calls for action against saloon operators.

A meeting for Bay field county farmers Saturday afternoon March 23 at one o'clock at the Commercial Club. Prof F L Musback of the University of Wisconsin soils laboratory will discuss soil testing and the new state law enabling low cost soil surveys. Farmers grouping costs can obtain surveys to improve crop choices and yields.
