Benches Installed Along Amos M. Hansen Block

Amos M. Hansen, the popular furniture man, has installed six benches along the block in front of his store for public use. The well made benches run the length of the block and serve as a pleasant rest area and an attractive advertisement.

Semi Centenary of Rev John Gibson Noted in Solon Springs

Solon Springs Wisconsin hosts the fiftieth anniversary celebration of Rev John Gibson entering the ministry on July 23 with attendees from northern Wisconsin. Rev F N Dexter presided aided by Homer W Carter D D secretary of the Association of Congregational Churches. Musicians from Washburn and Minong contributed as did the Solon Springs Ladies Aid serving a picnic supper.

Swedish Lutheran ice cream social draws large crowd in Bayfield

Mr and Mrs James Wilbur of St Paul visited the city this week at the home of Mr and Mrs William Philbrick. The Swedish Lutheran church ladies held an ice cream social at the Larson building on Bayfield street Saturday evening and a large crowd attended.

DuPont vaccines plant workers amid typhoid fears

E I DuPont Powder company vaccinating employees at the dynamite plant as a precaution against a typhoid outbreak. The prophylaxis is offered to all workers at the plant with costs borne by the company. Vaccination occurs each Saturday to protect a large workforce. The note cites broader use of typhoid vaccines in the military and highlights the company's quick adoption of health measures.

Death From Seat Change In Car Plunge At Embankment

Clarence McRae of Ironwood died when occupants of a moving auto tried to shift seats near a steep embankment. The car lost control and went over the bank. A passenger, Young McRae, was killed by the running board as the vehicle overturned while others escaped uninjured.

Owl Lodge Organizer Enlists for Front Line Service

A letter received last week states Tom Mead, who organized the Owl Lodge in the city, has enlisted with the 84 Gary Horse regiment at Sewall Manitoba and plans to sail to England around August 1st. It notes Canada appeals for servicemen as mother country mobilizes for war and mentions limited rifle practice due to ammunition shortages.

Washburn Farm Sells At Auction For 3000 Dollars

Ness Ness of this city closed a deal Saturday for the purchase of W. Mayala farm one mile west of the Sioux River school house in Washburn. The sale included all livestock and farm tools. Purchase price was 3000 dollars. Sale conducted through A. P. Fraser.

The Washburn City Band will host a dancing party at the Armory on Friday evening, August 13. The band is known for fine dances and this event should attract a large crowd.

Farmers Meeting at Ashland Junction Station

A Bayfield and Ashland county farmers meeting will be held at the Branch Experimental Station at Ashland Junction on Friday August 6. Speakers include E L Luther and possibly Dean Russell and Profs Milward Luther and Musbach. Attendees will view tests, receive dairy and crop farming guidance, soil management advice, spraying and seed potato topics, and an illustrated talk on education for all ages.

Ashland Tax Arrest Dismissed On First Case

Income assessor William Landraint pushes enforcement of income tax blank returns. Jens Wilman of Wilman Hansen & Company was arrested this week on the filing complaint, but the case was dismissed on Landraint’s recommendation as the first instance of its kind.
