The board of school commissioners selected R. T. Creigo of Chattanooga Tennessee to serve as principal for the coming term. Creigo is a University of Wisconsin graduate and comes highly recommended.
In a tight Sunday contest at home grounds the Dynamiters beat the 1st team 5 to 3. Batteries were Smith and Badley for the Dynamiters whilearke and Arseneau pitched for the rs& team. Geo Posey begins an addition project on Fifth Street.
T A Loveland of the American Bond company notes in a Times letter that in the last thirty days at least ten deeds were made to men buying farms near Washburn. He says most buyers live on their farms and this shows farmer prosperity, with mortgage relief speeding Bayfield County development and benefiting merchants.
Notice warns water rents are due and payable at Bayfield County Bank by July 15. If unpaid, water will be shut off and will not be turned on without a $2 payment. Office hours extended to evenings for patron convenience.

Wisconsin's civil service commission struggles to fill dozens of state jobs as many workers leave for higher pay. Vacancies span Oshkosh asylum Waukesha industrial school University Superior Normal school and more, with positions from engineers and stenographers to cooks and nurses. The commission seeks applicants statewide to replace resignations and reissued appointments.

Swedish Lutheran church holds confirmation exercises next Sunday at 10 a m. The class includes Anna Anderson Anna Peterson Emma Westin Arthur Carlson Walter Holmquist Einar Albertson Hjalmer Palm Sigurd Wedin Herman Hanson and Edwin Bolin. All are invited. A party of five residents from this city and one from Mason left Monday for Goldhill Oregon to take up timber claims. They traveled by the Northern Pacific and include E. Bergman Louis Green Emil Anderson Nels Martinson Ernest Lindall and Aunt Arntsen of Mason. They expect to be away about two weeks.
Sunday afternoon action features the Washburn Dynamiters and Bayfield at home with both teams evenly matched. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p m. Washburn also sends its first team to Odanah to face the local nine on the road.
Railroad workers in this city aim to organize a baseball team. They possess promising material and expect to develop into a fast, competitive squad before the season ends.
Gus Hering moves into the Meehan block to open a first class confectionery and tobacco store, with his cigar factory located in the rear. Erynne Martin and Ray Knapp of Ashland visited during the week. Ladies of the Maccabee Lodge from Ashland attended a Lawn Social at Mrs. W. B. Duffy’s home. Chas. Corry, about fifty, died Tuesday in Grand View from dropsy after earlier treatment in Ashland. Funeral likely tomorrow. Corry and his brother were well known in Washburn.
Bids for a stone foundation for a schoolhouse at the southeast corner of section 11 T 48 were to be received until July 13, 1907. Foundation size 22 by 32 feet with 18 inch bottom and 12 inch top, 3 feet in ground and 1 foot above. Berge, secretary of the school board, to oversee.
City business men report a likely new Northern Pacific passenger and freight depot at the foot of second avenue west. A Commercial Club committee secured easements on Omaha street for the railroad right of way from Washington avenue to second avenue west. Northern Pacific officials may visit soon to review the plans, with expectations of further development such as coal docks and grain elevators.
An obituary honors James Coyle who died at his East 5th Street home, four years after arriving in the city. It lauds his devotion to his wife and three daughters, his faith, kindness, and service as a Mason. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church with tributes from local ministers and Masonic brethren.
The Scandinavian ME Church announces services at usual hours with a morning sermon by the pastor and an evening pulpit swap with Rev M L Olson of Ashland. The Ladies Aid Society meets Thursday at the Hovde home near Four Mile Creek and will require a 25 cent fare for transport to the farm. attendees should notify the pastor to arrange teams.
On Tuesday evening Miss Elizabeth Yates of Stevens Point was chosen as teacher for the primary department and Miss Ada Babcock was elected for the third and fourth grades.
