Big explosion at Beloiel Works kills seven in cordite plant

A blast at the Beloiel works of the Canadian Explosive Co in the cordite plant Tuesday killed seven people, including two girls, and injured ten or more. Missing include Aymer Brown and J S Sammons. No Washburn workers were among the injured or missing. Former Washburn men employed there are named. New telephones for the Summit Telephone Co have arrived and are being installed.

Strawberry season opens with light yield and good prices

The Bayfield County Farmers and Fruit Growers Association reports the strawberry season is in full swing with brisk market activity. First local berries arrived over a week ago, full picking began after the 4th, and shipments are expected daily as long as the season lasts. Duluth received the initial car shipment. Quality is very fine though crops are light due to heavy rains that caused plant rot and weakened roots, but growers receive favorable prices to offset shortages.

Municipal Judge George A Calder is praised for organizing Washburns largest July 4 event with help from F E Wieman Kirke and others. The report also notes Carl Daly, son of Dan and Mrs Daly, broke his wrist attempting to ride a moving merry go round last Friday night.
