Officers and directors of the White Rose Creamery resign to form a stock company with local farmers as stockholders. The creamery started by G. F. Champney in March now produces over a ton of butter weekly, much of which is shipped to outside points.
The community views the creamery as vital as a saw mill, noting its importance when patronage grows and funds circulate. The project is described as a major economic driver for local commerce and employment.
Remsen, noted for dry goods experience, launches a new shop named the Fair on West Bigelow street. The motto promises good goods at the very lowest prices with honest dealings. The store will stock dry goods and offer ice cream candies and soft drinks on Sundays.
The Pennlynn hotel opens in the city by Messrs. Robinson and Hansen. Located on 3rd avenue west two doors west of the Norwegian M. E. Church the small modern establishment is run by Mrs. Johnson a first class cook. It aims to fill a long felt need for this kind of hotel.
F. Tetzner of this city marks a striking alfalfa field with four foot high samples taken June 30. The vigorous crop stands along a well traveled area attracting attention from passersby.
Bayfield prepares for a mid summer Chautauqua week July 17 to 22 with a program of music and speeches featuring top national speakers and singers. Tickets for the entire course are two dollars. The event will be at the Bayfield courthouse grounds with lake and Apollo Islands views and easy train and auto routes from Washburn and surrounding towns.
A joint July 5 event blends Bayfield and Washburn with a sunrise salute and a morning parade touted as the region’s largest. Thirty Bayfield autos, floats from business and civic groups, and speaker A H Wilkinson will headline a day of baseball, auto and motorcycle races, water sports, and running events across Washburn.
Ashland reporters hype a DuPont powder plant dispute with rumors of law rulings over explosives shipments to allied armies. District Attorney Washburn denies prompting any state ruling and says the story stems from rumor. The Ashland press and Ashland Daily Press fueled local unease about the Barksdale plant.
Mrs. Boyd Cameron died at her East 6th Street home last Sunday morning after a two week battle with typhoid pneumonia. She leaves her husband and six children Donald Victor Dora Duncan Theodore and Carrie. Funeral services were held Tuesday at her residence with Rev. O W Smith. burial followed beside her parents in Plainfield Wisconsin. The family had resided in Washburn for over twenty years and were widely known and mourned by many friends.
Bayfield Wisconsin June 30 1915 a committee is forming to mount a Bayfield division in the Washburn Fourth of July parade. Thirty cars are promised and decorated in national colors with banners and megaphones announcing the chautauqua. A call goes out for pretty Bayfield girls to ride in the cars.
Nels Olson treasurer of Herbster Wisconsin was riding toward Cornucopia when runaway horses dashed down a steep hill. He jumped from the rig to save his life breaking both legs with the left ankle badly broken. He was taken to Washburn in a buggy in serious condition.
Mrs. M. S. Hull was taken to St Joseph hospital at Ashland today for treatment due to poor health. Her friends in the city hope for her speedy recovery.
Next Sunday the annual Sunday school outing with open air service by the children will be held at the Picnic Grounds on the lake shore. In case of rain the services will be held at the church in the morning. Vikings meet next Wednesday evening at Gust Lunds home. Thursday prayer meeting.
The annual W C T U picnic is held at the Sarver farm near Sioux River today. Mr and Mrs Martin Sweet and their Chicago children arrived yesterday and will visit relatives and friends for a few days.
Miss Jennie Joanis daughter of Mr and Mrs Fred Joanis and Mr Thomas Peterson married in Duluth on Saturday evening and will live in the Larson residence on Pine street. The bride worked at M P Doyle dry goods. the groom is well known. A series of agricultural lectures will begin July 2 at the Branch Experiment Station Ashland Junction. The first meeting will cover winter grain production and land drainage with specialists discussing livestock, crops, soil, pests, and diseases.
A badly decomposed unidentified male body, about 45 years old and 180 pounds, was found in the White River between Mason and Bibon on Monday. Undertaker Amos M. Hansen buried the remains on Tuesday. The man appeared dead about six weeks, with no identification. Authorities could not determine nationality, and the pockets held a knife, looking glass, pencil, lunch, and beer bottle.
Louis Wardner and Carl Holman have rented the old Red Front building on West Bayfield Street to open a clothing and gentlemen's furnishing shop soon. Both have long city residence and expect good local patronage.
Bernard and Cornelius O Sullivan first to bring berries to the local warehouse for marketing. Other growers had berries for sale locally but the O Sullivans marketed through the warehouse. The berries are of fine quality and the yield is expected to be heavier than anticipated.
Du Pont plant at Barksdale adds nearly 1000 workers, most on construction rather than explosives. Two new Triton lines planned at the dynamite works, with further enlargements expected to handle higher output. City business booms as wages are paid biweekly and vacant buildings fill.
Miss Jennie Amelia Anderson and Emerald Swanson married Thursday evening at the bride’s parents’ home with Rev. Chr. Christiansen officiating. Bridesmaids were Esther Swanson and Lena Reitan. groomsmen Elmer Anderson and Christian Larson. A wedding supper followed. the couple left Friday for their honeymoon and will reside on West Bayfield Street upon return. Both families are well known and friends extend congratulations.
The church of the cordial welcome announces services at the usual Sunday hour with H. C. Koenig in charge. Sunday school and league meetings will be held at the usual times. L. S. Woods made a business trip to Mason yesterday morning.
