Dr. H. G. Lampson a prominent Bayfield County physician will move to Minneapolis to practice medicine. He plans to close his Bayfield affairs and dispose of property, intending to relocate in August, not due to local business decline but to pursue opportunities in a larger city. The community expresses regret but wishes him success.
Charles H. Flynn has retired from direct management of Wash burn Brewery. E. G. Bergen, who held stock, now holds a controlling interest and leads affairs. A five‑member committee was named to approach M. A. Sprague about bringing North Shore timber to the city for manufacture, with another meeting to decide. Catherine Mcllree returned from Whitewater and southern Wisconsin points. Bayfield and Ashland advertise Fourth of July celebrations attracting local attendees.
Proprietor Pederson of Hotel Washburn announces a six oclock dinner at the hotel on Sunday evening July 5 from 6 to 8. Residents of Washburn and vicinity are invited, with music by Pedersons orchestra during dinner. The price is fifty cents.
Zenith Dredging of Duluth teams up with Omaha Railway to clear the slip near the coal dock and elevator. The harbor has not seen dredging in over twelve years, allowing refuse from the docks to accumulate.

The death of Mrs. Joseph Arts shoe occurred at Red Cliffe recently. Her Indian name was Minasinosesith, she was a daughter of Big Eagle, and she was a little over a hundred years old at the time of death.
Firemen responded yesterday morning to a small blaze in H. R. Johnson's shoe store on Bayfield Street caused by an oil lamp used to heat irons. Water caused substantial damage to stock while the fire itself did little real structural harm.
Rudolph Brand, former United States Brewers association president, told brewers at their convention smokers that treating is the greatest evil in American saloons. He said Europeans accept gratuities differently and Americans should pay for their own drinks to avoid drunkenness. He argued ending treating would curb drunkenness more than prohibition. A son was born to Mr and Mrs Frank Downs Sunday morning. Frank Delray of Chicago visited friends in the city this past week. Mrs D Meliik of Minneapolis is a guest at the I Berman residence this week. Miss McGraw of Superior visits friends in the city. Attorney John Walsh leaves tomorrow for Denver for the Democratic National Convention. Mrs Simon Schultz has been very sick the past week. Mr and Mrs Kenfield and children left Tuesday afternoon for Cass Lake to spend most of the summer, due to Mr Kenfield’s work keeping him there.
District Attorney to act on a dispute over who owns the county fair grounds at Iron River. A. H. Grimpo claims title through irregular proceedings, but Alvord's investigation supports the county as rightful owner and the county may sue to settle the land title. Mr and Mrs John Smith welcomed a son born Sunday morning. Mrs I Berman returned from the Twin Cities, accompanied by her sister. Mrs W B Duffy visits Iron River friends this week. Tim Manning is very ill at home. he is among the citys oldest residents. The 6 PM dinner at Hotel Washburn will be well attended. Tom Manning of Winton Minn and family are in the city due to his fathers serious illness. George Glazier, Roy Geisert and Alphonse Veno plan a log rolling exhibition at Bayfield on the 4th and Glazier will repeat his cable slide and high dive act. Beaver Lodge members plan a Benefit Dance for sick Beaver Walter Bergland, his family in destitute circumstances, with the event set for next week.

The Washburn city sewerage committee invites bids by public auction on July 3, 1908 at seven p.m. for a 700 foot sewer along Third Avenue West from Bayfield Street to a ravine crossing Omaha railroad right of way. 20 inch tiles supplied by the city, quarry sand and fill material, excavation about six feet deep, bids may be rejected.
Ben Runkle declares candidacy for the Republican nomination for sheriff in the upcoming primary. He promises two years of up to date service if nominated and elected and invites public support, noting eight years of prior service as a Bayfield County officer and offering his record for review.

Secretary Straus of the Department of Commerce and Labor has established offices on Ellis Island and in Boston with Chicago to follow. The department is sending postal cards to rural free delivery patrons to learn which farmers need labor and what kind. Eligible respondents fill an attached application blank to indicate labor needs.
