Lumber King Purchases Noted Northern Wisconsin Land Tract

Cumberland Land Company sells to Frederick Weyerhauser F C A Denkman and associates a large pine land tract in Bayfield and Douglas counties. The deed records in Bayfield County reveal a $262 500 price with $262.50 in cancelled revenue stamps. The tract spans town 43 44 west and town 44 9 west with lands in both counties and is described as one of northern Wisconsin's most valuable pine holdings.

Faulkner and Winkle Die in Separate Accidents

Locomotive strikes Thomas Faulkner on the W B I R railway near the round house. he dies after being brought to Dr Lampson's office. Separately H Wink le is crushed beneath a logging sled. Misidentification and unknown identity surround the Faulkner death until relatives confirm the body. Faulkner had long lived near town with his family and his death is linked to his own habits.

Old woodsman Henry Winkles killed at Lindsay's camp

Henry Winkles, a long time woodsman, died after a logging accident at Lindsay's camp Monday evening. A chain failure caused a load to shift. Winkles fell under the runner and was killed. He lived in Washburn nine years and was well regarded. Remains brought to town for burial.

Congregational Church Holds Annual Meeting and Reorganizes

The yearly meeting last Thursday night praised church work across societies. Two new deacons were named Dr Hicks and P J Bestler. W H Lemke and L N Clausen were re elected trustees and clerk, N M Oscar treasurer. A building committee including Clausen Shaw and Holgren was chosen. basement work is planned in early spring funded by Sunday school and Busy Bees groups for new windows.

Long Distance Line Opens Tomorrow at Ashland

The new long distance telephone line will be formally opened tomorrow in Ashland with the Vaughn Library as the invitation site for free use by patrons. No special events are planned at the opening, but users may talk nationwide starting tomorrow.

Ashland couple group enjoys evening at Hotel Washburn

About twelve young couples drove from Ashland last night to the Hotel Washburn where dancing and refreshments provided the entertainment for several hours.

Taxes Now Ready for Collection This Year

Bayfield County Wisconsin will meet at Washburn Court House on February 9 1900 to sell or transfer tax certificates not redeemed or sold by law. The meeting is set for the purpose of offering certificates at face value or highest price.
