Washburn Sets Telegraph Poles For Rail Line Dispatches

Washburn Wisconsin town board approves ordinance granting Edgar B. Lincoln Receiver of the Washburn Bayfield and Iron River Railway Company authority to place poles and wires on West Omaha Street for transmission of sound messages by telephone or telegraph The measure includes provisions to safeguard the town from damages and requires poles to be at least 25 feet long and four inches in diameter and allows police and fire alarm lines at no charge. The ordinance takes effect after passage and publication on December 1 1899.

Percy W Gibson named secretary of the Y M C A in Waukesha after a period of uncertainty. The Milwaukee born ministerial son of Rev John Gibson will open the building and oversee renewed activities. The office will run 8 AM to 10 PM with Sunday meetings at 3 PM and memberships renewed by January 10.
