County Board Banquet Hosted by Washburn Club at Y M C A

Bayfield county Board members will be guests of the Washburn Commercial Club for a banquet and evening program at the Y M C A on January 19. The 6:30 PM banquet will be followed by films talks and social time to acquaint board members with city residents. Arrangements include lodging for visiting members during the road meeting.

Married Saturday in St Louis Catholic church parsonage

Miss Dena Smith and Mr George Burke tied in marriage last Saturday at the parish house with Rev Fr Borucki officiating. Bridesmaid Miss Mae Miller and best man Mr Lawrence Miller attended. The couple planned a short honeymoon to Duluth and Eau Claire before establishing a home in the city.

Union Club basketball team faced Ashland at the Y M C A gym winning 33 to 16. The first half ended 12 to 10 in Ashland favor with a strong second half by Union Club. Referee Remsen Bell called fair rulings and postgame dancing followed.

Bayfield County officials opened bids for the Soldiers' Bonus Bonds totaling 53,640.61 dollars and sold the entire issue to Bogler Mosler Willaman of Chicago for 53,650 dollars. The bidding was subdued, reflecting tighter money conditions.

Grandmother Spears Dies After Four Week Illness

Funeral planned for Grandma Spears, aged 78, of Washburn, after a four week illness. Born Agnes Buchanan McNair in Glasgow, she lived in New York State and Milwaukee before settling in Greenbush and later Washburn. Survived by husband J T Spears, two daughters and two sons, seven great grandchildren, and many friends. Funeral held at Congregational church, interment in Greenbush cemetery.

News arrived that Clarissa Johnson daughter of Mrs Frank Johnson died at Bramerton Washington on December 21 She was a member of the Beaver club in this city and Secretary William Goedeke reported the death The Johnson family has experienced three losses since moving west last summer Friends extend sympathy in their bereavement.

Mid Winter Grain Show to Be Held in Ashland

Bayfield County farmers from Bayfield Douglas Washburn Burnett Ashland Rusk and Price counties will exhibit at the Northern Wisconsin Grain Show in Ashland on January 24 1920. Prizes totaling at least 3800 in cash plus machinery and items will be awarded. Farmers are urged to bring a peck of grain for entry label sacks with Bayfield County noted.

Du Dismantling Dupont Houses in Duluth for Shipment

Work began Tuesday with ten men led by H. M. Loveld to dismantle 2 of 76 houses built during the war by Dupont for workers. The sections will be shipped to Duluth to reerect on Marshall-Wells land. Removal expected by early fall with expansion to full scale later, ending housing needs that arose during the war.
