Ashland YMCA Five Loses to Local Team in Street Scene
Five Ashland YMCA players faced the local YMCA squad last Saturday night. The Ashland team faded in the second half after a scrappy first half. One Ashland player was ejected for rough conduct and the visitors forfeited the game due to no substitute available. Referee Remsen Beil was praised for fair officiating and decisions.

Alumni Reorganizes After Washburn High Meet at YMCA
About 130 alumni attended a Friday evening gathering at the YMCA where Washburn High School Alumni Association was reorganized. George Waters was elected president with Clifford Wescott as vice president and Nana Buzard as treasurer. A holiday annual meeting plan was set and a resolution urged rapid construction of a new high school building.

Mrs Segal Leads VanDuzen Oil Company Trip to Montana
Mrs Delia Segal chief officer and director of VanDuzen Oil Company leaves Sunday for Roundup Montana to visit the companys well and then proceeds to Billings and Casper Wyoming for the annual stockholders meeting in which she will preside in place of President H W Van Dueren. Louis Shapiro, Segals brother and fellow director, joins her after meeting in St Paul before heading to the meeting. The company holds large Montana oil assets including a key well and attracts local Washburn investors.

Fire destroys building at Chatten residence corner 7th and Omaha
Firefighters rushed to the Chatten residence at corner 7th Avenue and Omaha Street around 2 AM Tuesday. The blaze originated unseen from Kenfield Lamoreaux mill and consumed most of the structure before crews arrived. The Chatten family was away. cause remains undetermined.

Death of Washburn Resident Frank Bennett
Frank Bennett of East 4th street died at 7 20 last Wednesday from heart failure. He had bronchial troubles but was considered well until the sudden illness. Funeral services were held at the Congregational Church with Rev. Geo Watters in charge and interment at Woodland cemetery. He was born in Paris France and long an honor to his community, survived by his wife and sister Mrs D C Bull of Syracuse.

Wisconsin Highway Commission announces the Ninth Annual Road School to be held in Madison from January 26 to 31, 1920. State Highway Engineer Hirst prepared the program, promising it will surpass prior efforts as attendance grows from 700 last year toward a hoped for thousand registrants.

Washburn Boy Wins Honor in Oil Station Design
Walter Holmquist, son of Mr and Mrs Peter Holmquist, won second place in a Trans Continental Oil competition for a service station design. Fifty five architects competed. twenty five were chosen to remodel within two weeks. A twelve member jury picked Holmquist’s design, and a $200 prize awarded. The firm plans to erect stations nationwide using the winning design.
