Ashland Pioneer J Miles Killed by Switch Engine
J Miles of Ashland, on his eighty third birthday, was struck and killed by an Omaha switch engine at the Beaser avenue crossing. The crew did not know they had hit a person. Miles, a longtime lawyer and property holder, was active in local affairs and a former city councilman. The body was found after a witness saw a figure on the tracks and dragged to the curb where the accident occurred. Funeral services were held at the Bissett residence on Beaser Avenue.

First Hunting Accident of Season Reported in Northern Wisconsin
The incident occurred last Thursday near Port Wing when 20 year old Targar Egdahl was shot in the back while deer hunting with a companion between Port Wing and Iron River. The bullet grazed his hand and lodged in his back after the trigger was pulled by the hunter who mistook him for a deer. He was treated at Iron River and later at Ashland General Hospital. Egdahl said the trigger saved him from instant death.
