Madison announces competitive examinations for state service on December 4 with tests at county seats across the state. Careers include legislative and departmental posts. jobs target both men and women, with salaries possibly rising to last session levels.
Over the past year the Wisconsin Anti Tuberculosis Association reports 105 clinics in 55 Milwaukee area communities examined 5755 people at no cost with 950 found definite or suspiciously consumptive. The drive hinges on the December Christmas Seal sale starting Thanksgiving Day to fund the program and expand clinics in 1921. Chicago-based agencies are not involved. Milwaukee stands as the focus with 588 Jefferson Street listed for the association.
Game wardens Hilli ker and Hornberg seized ten deer carcasses Saturday at Theodore Knx's home two miles west of Mellen. Three carcasses were fawns. the does and buck were sent to Milwaukee and the fawns ordered sold locally. The conservation commission suspects the deer were killed to supply hunters who would not leave empty handed. Avg. Rave has been on the sick list this week.
The Bayfield county clerk reports 3230 deer licenses issued to date, a county record amid a nationwide hunt craze. A U.S. Biological Survey estimate cites 7,000,000 American hunters, with state licenses totaling 3.6 million in 1919 and 3.5 million exempted under various provisions. State revenues from licenses reach about 4.5 million, funding 2,000 game wardens and 600 tame wardens, while federal migratory bird protection gets 142,500 for 29 wardens. A Ottawa meeting urged federal hunting licenses for migratory birds. stamps atop state licenses could yield 1–2 million dollars for game protection.
Ray Smith and George Marchand of Washburn enlisted in the U S Navy and leave Saturday for Milwaukee to begin training. They aim to join the Pacific Fleet cruise next June with trips to the South Seas, Australia, New Zealand and Tasmania. Enlistments surge as the Navy fills. most expect a February slowdown.

The Wisconsin Highway Commission letters Division Engineer McLean about abandoning a barrens crossing on State Trunk Highway No. 10. They consider rerouting to the Fish Creek path or extending the Peerless Grade east toward Ashland, with surveys and cost estimates to compare options.
Parents and teachers of Walker school organized last Thursday afternoon. Seventh grade pupils performed and Miss Kanzler sang a solo. A lunch was served afterwards. Officers elected include Mrs. Harry Farhig president, Mrs. Lamoreaux vice president, Mrs. Morris secretary and treasurer. Meetings set for the first Friday of each month.
