Special Election Called on Sept 18 to Set License Fee

Washburn voters will decide September 18 whether to raise the liquor license from 200 to 500 dollars. The move follows a three year cut from 500 to 200 prompted by saloon interests, with temperance forces backing the current push.

Washburn Labor Day Celebrations Set With Parades and Games

The Mill Men's Union plans a major Labor Day event in Washburn with expected turnout from Bayfield Ashland Port Wing Mason and Drummond. A large parade featuring about 1000 laborers, log rolling contest prizes, Washburn vs Bayfield ballgame, speeches by Frank Webber and Geo Cooper, fireworks and an opera house dance are scheduled.
