Call For Second Draft Examination In Bayfield County
The County Exemption Board issues a second call for drafted men with 60 to appear on each day Monday Tuesday and Wednesday of next week for examination. 180 men were notified this week after the first group of 134 was processed. fewer than a quarter sought no exemption with most claiming dependents or occupational exemptions. A few aliens and physically disabled individuals were noted. results show a generally orderly process. The list of Washburn registered men cited for Monday Tuesday and Wednesday includes numerous names such as Arthur Anderson Jacki Makie Edward Gruber and Ralph Shotwell.

Chatham visitor recalls epic Siskiwit Lake pike tale
W H Benson of Chatham Ont visited at Mrs M H Robinsons home then joined a fishing trip to Siskiwit Lake in Bayfield County. He landed a 3814 inch 9 lb 4 oz pike after a long fight with help from a nephew and also a bass over five pounds. He details a strenuous 30 minute tussle and plans to remember the trip always.

Dope House Fire Destroys DuPont Plant Annex at Barksdale
A Monday blaze gutted the interior of a metal framed DuPont plant building at Barksdale known as the dope house. Firefighters faced a tough fight due to highly combustible materials. The shell remains and officials say the building will be rebuilt at once.

Examinations Begin For Bayfield County Draft Quota
Bayfield County began screening sixty seven men for the draft this week with 134 called for examination. The local board chaired by Sheriff Andy Murray and others reported high turnout and mostly pass results as exemptions claimed for dependents or occupations. Family Left Destitute After House Fire Near Moquah
