Ashland Bayfield and Washburn should share the Labor Day celebration per an unwritten agreement. The current year calls for plans to be organized locally to stage the event here, with unions potentially mobilizing to boost interest. The ad also notes a wood supply offer from Kexvieip and Lamoneaux seeking 4 by 4 bolts.
The body of Mrs. Chas. Goslin, an Odanah reservation resident, was found south of Ashland near Northwestern tracks Tuesday morning after a train hit her the night before. An inquest in Ashland examined the case amid suspicions of foul play.
Bernard B. Goggins of Grand Rapids was appointed Tuesday to fill the unexpired term of John Barnes on the state railroad commission. The position carries a $5,000 salary. Goggins is a Democrat and a close ally of Mr. Connors.
At Houghton Park a large group of local youths gathered last evening. They traveled by gasoline launches and danced to music at the rink pavilion, reporting a very enjoyable time. H Stockstad and daughter Hazel returned to Evelith Minnesota after a city visit, and Ringan will remain to attend school this term.
Captain James O Neill of Puget Sound Washington visits his Wisconsin born brother William O Neill and family on east Fourth Street. James left Wisconsin in 1878 and returns for a Civil War era reunion and to see surviving 11th Wisconsin veterans. Herman DeMars and family plan Tacoma move. Frost and Powers camping near Drummond. Upcoming church events include a Bayfield street lawn social August 3 and Ladies Aid gathering August 8 with ice cream and cake.
Fred Anderson heads to Mississippi for Hines Lusaber work. The steamer Barker offers excursions August 3, with Mrs. C B Simpson visiting in Duuth. A M E Sunday school picnic is planned at Feston Park. Congregational Church signals no evening services in August. morning worship to continue with emphasis on inviting attendance. Sunday school proceeds as usual.
The Methodist Church will host a series of short evening services this month titled Uncrowned Heroes of the New Testament. Each sermon will explore lesser known men from the New Testament, with choir special numbers and familiar hymns featured at each service.
The Steamer Mary Scott carried 1025 passengers across the bay on Monday, one of the busiest days since Captain John E. Doherty took charge. Most visitors hailed from Wastburn, and the captain called the crowd one of the best he has ever handled.

H. O. Lund of Iron River is reappointed for another year as Bayfield County game warden. This will be his fourth term as a careful and painstaking officer, and many friends throughout the county will be glad to learn of his appointment.
The grocery stock and creamery formerly owned by A. R. Kinney were sold by the referee in bankruptcy. C. N. Cramee & Co. bought the grocery stock and M. A. Sprague acquired the creamery.
Elected Grand Secretary A Melsness of Independence wins the post in Wisconsin L W A. Balloting was by mail. Melsness will relocate to Chippewa Falls to assume duties as grand secretary.

In a Jacksonville letter dated July 22 1907 R Mitchell reports returning to the United States from the Bahamas. He criticizes wages at the company claiming 72 cents per day, high prices for flour meat and canned goods, and a system that profits the store while workers receive low pay. He notes harrowing conditions including dangerous limestone pits and a small black population, and says he hopes to be home in the spring if all is well.
A bid for building a school house on the corner of section 30 township 49 range 4 west will be received until July 20 1907. Specifications and plans are on file at the Times office Andrew Bane secretary school board.
