Indian Woman Ashland Tragedy Tagged as Train Fatality

The body of Mrs. Chas. Goslin, an Odanah reservation resident, was found south of Ashland near Northwestern tracks Tuesday morning after a train hit her the night before. An inquest in Ashland examined the case amid suspicions of foul play.

Goggins Appointed to State Railroad Commission

Bernard B. Goggins of Grand Rapids was appointed Tuesday to fill the unexpired term of John Barnes on the state railroad commission. The position carries a $5,000 salary. Goggins is a Democrat and a close ally of Mr. Connors.

Young City Youths Enjoy Evening at Houghton Park Pavilion

At Houghton Park a large group of local youths gathered last evening. They traveled by gasoline launches and danced to music at the rink pavilion, reporting a very enjoyable time. H Stockstad and daughter Hazel returned to Evelith Minnesota after a city visit, and Ringan will remain to attend school this term.

Captain James O Neill of Puget Sound Washington visits his Wisconsin born brother William O Neill and family on east Fourth Street. James left Wisconsin in 1878 and returns for a Civil War era reunion and to see surviving 11th Wisconsin veterans. Herman DeMars and family plan Tacoma move. Frost and Powers camping near Drummond. Back to the States R Mitchell quits Bahamas over wages

In a Jacksonville letter dated July 22 1907 R Mitchell reports returning to the United States from the Bahamas. He criticizes wages at the company claiming 72 cents per day, high prices for flour meat and canned goods, and a system that profits the store while workers receive low pay. He notes harrowing conditions including dangerous limestone pits and a small black population, and says he hopes to be home in the spring if all is well.
