Meenan Named Assignee After Perlman Stock Transfer

County Board Holds Special Session on Boundaries and Finances

The county board reelected A Pearce Tomkins as chairman and Alfred Marsh as janitor. It authorized selling tax certificates at face value, allowed quit claims on tax deed properties, and adjusted township boundaries among Drummond Mason Barnes Cable Iron River. Tax compromises were discussed for Moore Kepple Co and Lee Estate, with agency authority to act if necessary. The supervisor’s pay was set at four dollars per day for 125 days, extra help funded, and Washburn Times named official paper for the year.

County Assessors in Annual Meeting Report

County assessors from area towns met in the court room on April 14 led by Supervisor Geo. F. Morgan. One absent, J. M. Walker. Attendees include Bayfield Hugo C. Nelson, Barnes Chas Puzey, Cable A. N. Anderson, Drummond S. J. Haslet, Hileen A. P. Melstrand, Iron River Ed. Goulet, Mason J. E. Pearson, Port Wing W. H. Nettleton, Washburn Theo Bender and J. N. Kinney. Captain Doherty of the Mary Scott improved Washburn Ashland service with a new waiting room and enhanced amenities. A special city council meeting discussed salaries, music in saloons, and a poll tax for males 21 to 50 with collection by the street commissioner. adjourned after further business. Other items note loans, road repairs to Cranberry river for fishing season, and three fires with minor losses. Creamery notice outlines milk, cream delivery, testing, and payment terms ahead of May 1 start.

The new Wasnoburn creamery receives modern equipment and rapid installation proceeds. The plant will begin operations soon and by May 1 expects to produce Wasnoburn creamery butter with one of the region’s best facilities in the northern state.
