DuPont Plans To Hire Over Two Hundred At Barksdale Plant

DuPont officials announced that upwards of 200 additional workers will be employed at the Barksdale plant within thirty days. The hires will dismantle unused buildings and rearrange equipment and materials. The move is expected to absorb local labor and boost city business.

Deputy Health Officer Evelyn Downs reports in Washburn Public Schools that over fifty percent of children have defective teeth and enlarged tonsils. Other findings include pediculosis 12 percent and underweight prevalence higher than overweight, with detailed weight distributions and additional health indicators.

Meeting Planned to Organize City Baseball Team

With spring approaching the city shows strong interest in forming a good baseball team for the coming season. Fred Joanis, former manager, is discussed as manager again and hopes to assemble a strong squad leveraging returning players. A meeting will be held soon to discuss plans and arrange for a solid team.

Rex Hotel to Open After Extensive Repairs

John Joanis says the Rex Hotel leased for three years will open to the traveling public within two weeks after extensive repairs. The LaLonde barber shop will become the lobby, with the shop moved to the former lobby area. The building is being papered and painted, furnished, and outfitted with new amenities including a dining room bath and hot water in many rooms.

Notice to bidders for road work at Sweden crossing

Sealed bids will be received at the Highway Commissioner’s office in Washburn until 7 p.m. on April 15 for cutting down a hill at the Sweden railroad crossing on State Trunk Highway No 24 in Drummond. J S Fletcher is named manager of Washburn Flour and Feed as the Bayfield County Farmers and Fruit Growers Association buys the stock and building. George F Morgan resigns as manager and the association moves the West End store to the Fletcher building. Washburn Musical Society to perform in club lecture

The last lecture course of the Men's Club features a Washburn Musical Society program at the Y M C A on April 23. Officers include C F Morris as President, Mrs C F Paul as Pianist and Treasurer, and W Gunn Smith as Musical Director and State Manager. Local residents gather for Mae Miller’s Thursday social

Miss Mae Miller entertained a number of friends at her home on Thursday evening of last week. Al Lundgren of Port Wing transacted business in the city the first of the week. Washburn Bayfield Road Washout. Cemetery Trustees Organized

Spring floods washed out the Bayfield Washburn road near the Sioux River slough causing significant damage and possible bridge needs. The Washburn Cemetery Association formed under Wisconsin law to manage funds for upkeep with six trustees elected annually and by laws to be adopted at Memorial Day's annual meeting.

Bridge Bids Sought For Washburn Town Of Barksdale

The city of Washburn invites bids until 2 p m on April 15 for two 16 by 20 reinforced concrete spans on State Trunk Highway No 10 in Barksdale. Plans are at the highway commissioner’s office. Bayfield notables and farm herd move center regionale

Mayor Wachsmuth of Bayfield transacted business here the first of the week. H J Wachsmuth proprietor of the Bayfield Progress was a business visitor here Tuesday. C W Van Stone and son arrived from Minneapolis and have gone to their farm northwest of Washburn. Mr Vee Stone brought two thoroughbred Holstein cows and a sire, taken to the big farm to join the herd. Also a housing flood for rent advertised at the Times office.
