Court House Circuit Court Matters and Bridge Contracts
The commissioners met in special session to consider erecting a new steel bridge on the township line between Seward and Clay. Bids for painting the courthouse were rejected, requiring a new letting at the September term. Contracts awarded for bridges and arches include Holbrook bridge and abutments in Wayne township, Buffalo street abutments in Warsaw, Bowen arch in Wayne township, Rarick arch in Prairie township, Myers arch in Harrison township, and Welch arch in Warrison township. The 13th annual reunion of Monroe and adjacent townships old settlers was held in Joel Phillips grove south of Pierceton last Thursday. A large crowd gathered despite inun plescent forenoon. A big dinner followed noon, with social mingling. Hon. L W Royse of this city gave the principal address on the Intellectual Development of the American People. Also spoke were Congressman James M. Robinson of Ft Wayne and C C Gilliam s auditor of LaGrange County. The day ended with more visiting and merrymaking.
