Public Works Board Approves Two Bridges and Ditch Viewers
Commissioners appointed viewers for Hollar ditch in Jefferson township to meet at Milford on April 22. In Etna township Graham ditch petitioners gain amendment, reporters may amend their report. Board approves two new steel bridges in western county: Blue bridge one-fourth mile west of Mentone in Harrison township, 40 feet span with 14 foot roadway. Gregg bridge in Etna township three miles northeast of Etna Green, 25 feet length with 14 foot roadway. Special session adopts plans and specs for the two bridges and their abutments, plus the Whittenberger arch near Claypool and an eight foot arch elsewhere.

Changes in Indiana School Laws Highlight Truant Officer Election
The last legislature updates Indiana school laws. Truant officer now elected by the board of education on the first Monday in May. Board includes township trustees county superintendent and county seat city schools superintendent. Townships must aid poor children with clothing and books and report aid at next county commissioners meeting after investigation. Habitual absentees may be sent to reform school or house of correction upon truant officer complaint. Township trustee to provide truant officer with enumeration list of school age children on last day of the school year. officer receives a postage allowance.

Tragic death of youth after morphine suicide note
Regina Godfrey 22, divorced wife of Harry Godfrey, died from morphine taken with suicidal intent. Coroner's inquest found prior dissipated life and a letter to her mother expressing despair and intent to die. She leaves two small children and a note asking for forgiveness and care for them.

Samuel Gibbons of Hagdenville Kentucky is said to be the oldest mail carrier in the United States. At seventy six years old he has spent sixty three years in the employ of the postal service. His career began in 1836 when he was eleven years old.
