May 31 tragedy in Shamokin removes outing plans for John and Walter Futchko of Enterprise. While father Andres Futehko repaired a car lamp, it toppled a gasoline pan, igniting flames. He hurled the pan from the doorway as the boys ran inside. both boys died within an hour. The father suffered severe burns but is expected to recover.
Pierre Dupont a Delaware capitalist and chairman of the General Motors Corporation board underwent a minor operation at Jefferson Hospital after being admitted Saturday. Doctors reported his condition as satisfactory and he was resting comfortably.

Charles Lindbergh plans to depart Cherbourg aboard the destroyer Breck and arrive in New York on June 14. He will ship Spirit of St Louis from Southampton and fly Paris to Cherbourg before boarding. A national celebration is planned on his return with a cabinet committee to arrange honors.
May 21 six men charged from disorderly parade to assault as riot police faced probes over Memorial Day disturbances. Klansmen clashed with police in Queens while two fascists died in separate Bronx incidents and Times Square clashes caused only minor injuries.
President Coolidge enters a busy two weeks before his vacation. He writes two major speeches, reviews armada at Hampton Roads, and plans for a government budget meeting and possible tax cuts. He will travel to Hammond Indiana for a June 14 speech en route to the Black Hills summer home.
Col. Francesco Da Pinedo plans to repair the Santa Maria in Horta Azores and then fly over the ship lane to Flores where his seaplane was forced down last week. He aims to keep a record of crossing the Atlantic by air and will retrace the towing route with receptions planned during the stay. He arrived aboard the steamer Gorgo with the Santa Maria in tow.
Babe Ruth hits his 15th homer in the first inning as the Yankees face the Athletics. Koenig witnesses the drive. Buster Gehrig belted his 12th homer with bases empty in the third. Pat Collins later cleared the left field bleachers in the fourth.
Tampa May 31 eight men wounded two seriously when about 600 stormed Hillsborough county jail seeking B F Levins self confessed killer of a father and three children. Ambulances removed the wounded before daybreak. Tallahassee Fla May 31 a detachment of state guards was ordered from the Tampa Amory to patrol the vicinity after a mob tried to break in to seize Levins.
London reports circulated that a New York to Europe air flight may be in progress as Captain Bone of the Transylvania Cunard line received a wireless message stating a plane was sighted about 1000 miles off the Irish coast. No trans Atlantic flight was officially confirmed by UPI.
Mystery surrounding the disappearance of Peter II from his father Harry Smith’s home ends with the body found in the railroad reservoir near Clarion. The search led by townsfolk and family friends followed the Clarion River toward the Pinsy Dam as authorities investigated a fishing accident or fall.
Reports from Lewistown Philadelphia and Detroit recount Memorial Day fatalities. A river accident near Lewistown claimed 28 year old Bessie Cassidy while six people died in nearby Philadelphia area auto crashes and more than 20 were injured. In Detroit six lives were lost on congested roads and two drownings occurred on Long Lake when a boat overturned and rescue attempts failed.
The Illinois state government and the Chicago sanitary district won a Supreme Court ruling to eliminate the charge that Great Lakes water diversions damaged New York State hydro electric resources. New York had sought to enjoin diversions to the Mississippi watershed, with related suits from Wisconsin, Michigan, and others alleging impact on water levels. The defense argued Canadian interests were involved and that the Supreme Court lacked jurisdiction over an international issue.
Charled Lindbergh is awarded the Air Force Cross by King George VI in Buckingham Palace after a transatlantic flight aboard the Ryan Monoplane Spirt of St. Louis. Lindbergh also met Prime Minister Churchill at Downing Street and Prince of Wales at St James Palace during a day of royal reception and formal audiences.
