Classified ad brief from Tribune notes two small ads allowed per box. One ad offers a 1925 Buick two passenger coupe that looks and runs new with very little mileage, for sale by Russell at 307 Pa. In Poplar Bluff Missouri a public funeral will be held tomorrow at the court house square to honor storm victims. The city plans a large community service with ministers from all denominations participating as the death toll nears 103 and more deaths are feared due to hospital stays and ruins.
A gas leak in a two story brick building in Dallas Texas caused a massive blast as firefighters battled a blaze. Six people were killed and forty one injured as up to thirty five men on the second floor attended a lodge meeting when the explosion occurred.
Harrisburg May 12 Governor Fisher vetoed the Schantz senate bill approving 35000 for delinquent women institutions and vetoed the Sowers house bill on native or naturalized teachers. He also struck down Bush, Fayette, Brown, Luzerne, and Alexander bills on licenses, fees, and recorders of deeds as well as Early mercantile ad rate scales. A second veto rejected the borough tax penalties despite the new borough code reducing early pays and penalties.
Lock Haven on May 12. John Caskey aged 80 died in hospital after a fall into a vat of alkaline liquor at the New York and Pennsylvania Paper Company plant. The incident left him with fatal burns and prompted a fatal injury report.
George L. Patterson a 54 year old New Castle bank director died from injuries after a two car crash on the New Wilmington road returning from Sharon. W D Howe of Bellevue and W A McCombs of Crafton were slightly injured as Howe’s brakes locked and a small car forced him off the road. Patterson died at hospital while Howe and McCombs sustained minor injuries and police seek the other driver.
In New York and Washington, Standard Oil president Teagle led talks on stabilizing oil prices to avoid Sherman Act trouble. He warned Oklahoma Seminole field overproduction could paralyze oil and gasoline industries, while Treasury Secretary Mellon said federal action is powerless to curb crude output and that any cure must come from drillers and state action.
New York May 12 The jury in Charlie Chaplin’s $50,000 plagiarism suit against Leo Loeb failed to reach a verdict. Twelve jurors reportedly favored awarding Loeb the sum, while two dissented. Nathan Burkau Chaplin’s counsel requested dismissal as the judge considers the motion.
May 18 report from Lock Haven says 20 year old Russell Yodam of New York was struck by a dipper on a steam shovel along the Lock Haven Renovo highway and severely injured. He worked for the construction company building the state highway. The accident marked the third such incident in weeks, two men killed. In New Kensington, Felix Rose, 35, driving without lights on the Freeport road, led to police stopping his car and finding 100 gallons of liquor. he will face a hearing in Sharpsburg.

Harrisburg May 12 The Pennsylvania Federation of Labor demanded a state investigation into conditions at West Chester Normal School that led to the dismissal of two faculty members over alleged liberal club activities. The motion urged protecting free speech rights while a separate vote on endorsing citizen military training camps was tabled after bitter debating.
Joseph L. Flavin and Matt Dodds former prohibition agents convicted May 7 in federal court on conspiracy and extortion regarding soliciting money from local tax assessors were each sentenced to two years in the Atlanta penitentiary by Judge N P Schoonmaker. They also pleaded guilty to conspiracy and impersonating federal officers after dismissal and received two year terms to run concurrently.
In Sandwhich Massachusetts the coast guard seized liquor valued at about 50000 dollars as agents surprised a rum shipment tied to a bootlegging operation. The raid disrupted an organized group moving contraband during May.
Five men accused of conspiring to defraud the Brotherhood Savings and Trust Co in Pittsburgh of $102,500 in a high profile bond theft were acquitted by a county jury after hours of deliberation. The defendants were ordered to pay court costs and given 10 days to do so, while central figure Knapp remains linked to the missing $320,000 in cash tied to the $640,000 bond deal.
