New York City centers on two quests today. The public follows the reported nonstop flight by Nungesser and Coli to prove a crossing from Paris to New York. Civilians also watch a murder trial on Long Island where Mrs. Snyder and her helper face the electric chair.
Harrisburg May 11. Pennsylvania legislators receive a $500 per session raise, moving pay from 2500 to 3000. The bill also increases mileage from 30 to five cents per mile weekly while in session, costing the state about 129000 every two years.
The sale of three former officers of Brother hood Savings and Trust Company and two others charged with conspiring to defraud the bank of 102 000 will be placed before a jury late today. Defendants include Roland A. Mc Avady John Nelson William Kelly Frank J Redman and Charles E Knapp.

The 80 hour search for Charles Nungesser and Francois Coli continues as coast guard ships, other vessels, and liners hunt the Atlantic for signs of their plane. American pilots Chamberlin and Bertaud announce a Saturday takeoff if weather allows, while others like Lindbergh and Byrd consider assistance and future attempts.
Joseph Francis Herman 57, inventor and manufacturer of ante accessories, jumped from the 130 foot high million dollar bridge over Rock Creek Park in Washington. He waved to a passerby, paused briefly, and disappeared. He had been in ill health recently.
Curtiss Field May 11 Aviators Clarence Chamberlain and Lloyd Bertrand plan a New York to Paris run in the Bellanca Columbia. They will take off Saturday if weather holds, despite doubt over the fate of Nungesser and Coli and support from Charles A. Levine. Lindbergh arrives at Lambert Field with a 14 hour 23 minute crossing from San Diego. Brazil search fails for Saint Remain crew on Africa to South America attempt.
Reports from Shanghai say Hankow and Nanking nationalist factions may form a truce and cooperate against North China forces. Extremist leaders operate from Hankow while moderates are based in Nanking. Troops might cross the Yangtze near Pukow to launch a northern flank attack.
In New York on May 11 Charles Chaplin did not appear in federal court as the $50,000 plagiarism suit brought by Leo Loeb proceeded. Sidney Chaplin testified that Charlie did not use a written scenario for Shoulder Arms and could not recall source for the Rookie idea, while Chaplin's valet Thomas Harrington placed him in the south in April 1918.
William G. McAdoo forces abandon drive to nominate his son in law as party standard bearer and pivot to backing drys against New York Governor Al Smith. Newton D. Baker Senator Thomas J. Walsh and T. Meredith touted as lead contenders with Baker rising as Meredith promotes him. United Press poll finds no state delegation ready to back McAdoo.
Augusta Imogene Remus wife of former bootleg king George Remus was arrested in Cincinnati on a false pretenses warrant. Sheriff Elza Canter had sought similar charges against Franklin L Dodge Jr and Mrs Remus. A related report notes a body identified as Harry S McConnell of Pittsburgh with two chest wounds indicating murder.
Roy Senft aged 15 was instantly killed by a bolt of lightning while playing with his dog at home in York during a severe electrical and wind storm. A large Hostetter Construction barn was struck and destroyed, with losses over 10000 dollars, and trees and utility wires were damaged across York and surrounding areas.
A patrol wagon in Harrisburg was damaged after a street car rammed its rear, pushing it into another car. No injuries were reported though both vehicles sustained damage.
In the flood ravaged south and Mississippi basin, more than 400 000 people are homeless and the death toll runs from 375 to 600. In Poplar Bluff Missouri on May 11 a jury awarded Janes Foier and others sums far exceeding the original debt in several civil cases. Woley received 156 dollars plus interest and the Crosbys were ordered to pay 327 dollars total. The trial also included judgments against William Whelock and associates.
Governor Fisher approves changes to the uniform traffic code effective January 1. The speed limit rises on open roads to 36 mph and in boroughs to 20 mph. Two drivers must measure speed. signs must be posted along routes. omnibus vehicles limited to five passengers cannot exceed 5 mph over.
In New York May, Paris reveres United Press accuracy after L Agence Radio confirms United Press client in Paris sent a message of contributions on report reliability regarding Nungesser and Coli arrival narratives.
A Warren outlaw named Dickert faces a long sentence in Western Penitentiary after pleading guilty to auto theft and a series of crimes in multiple states. He was identified as the youth bandit who robbed W. Anderson of Ashtabula on May 2, forcing him into a cellar with a revolver. Authorities plan to pursue charges of robbery and extend sentences as they proceed.
Weather data shows a deepening low over the St. Lawrence valley with gale conditions and severe storms across the plains states. Eastern regions face cloudy skies and much colder air while plains and mountains see rising temperatures. Readings include Chicago 46, Cleveland 52, Los Angeles 62, Pittsburgh 56, Washington 70 with sunrise at 4 46 and sunset at 7 07.
