Earnings Trends Warn on Industrial Stocks in 1927 Quarter
The report notes Colorado Fuel and Iron earned 4.62 per share in Q1 1927, up from 2.68 in Q1 1926, aided by cost cuts and an ongoing improvement program. Anaconda Copper’s 1926 earnings were 4.74 per share, but 1925 saw 5.54 due to lower copper prices, with Anos Verde Mining beginning production. Other firms like Philadelphia Reading & Iron and Marland face mixed results amid tax considerations, labor costs, and inflationary pressures, while the market grows more professional and rail dividends may be delayed by flood-related traffic cuts. Domestic crude output and refinery totals for the week ending April 30 show gains in U S grades and overall production, suggesting cautious optimism in the broader market.
