Today on the Hudson near Fiore off Sing Sing prison three boys drown after guards refuse to leave their posts and convicts beg for permission to rescue them. The incident, described as a missed chance to save life, highlights the grim start in life of the prisoners and the limits of action in a perilous moment.
Mount Gretna gears up to host the Pennsylvania National Guard's 28th Division with about 3,200 soldiers under canvas by Saturday night. Three units train in rotating 15 day periods while Major General William Price oversees a six week camp. Units include the 17th Field Artillery Pittsburgh the 83rd Engineers Philadelphia the 19th Infantry Scranton Wilkes-Barre and the 110th Infantry Greensburg Latrobe. Special trains on the Penn Central and Reading railroads will move troops to camp.

July 7 report from Sifarpsburg says James Dailey 21 of Pittsburgh was found stripping an automobile and arrested after a partial chase by Motorcycle Patrolman Chester Zygello. Dailey fled in the car, was captured, and held at the borough station pending charges while the owner was notified.
Clarence Chamberlin and Charles Lindbergh successor Clarence Chamberlin and Charles A Levine end their collaboration after a dispute over a return flight to New York. Levine’s telegram to Byrd sparked the split, Chamberlin refuses to pilot the Bellance back, and Levine plans to fly with a trench pilot. The pair remain at the same hotel but coolly divided.
Miss Matiti Houghton daughter of United States ambassador to the court of St James married Chandler P Anderson in St Margaret’s yard Westminster Abbey in a simple ceremony attended by the British cabinet and diplomatic corps. After a reception at the embassy the couple begins a English honeymoon tour before returning to the United States. Anderson formerly state secretary to Houghton and son of Chandler P Anderson Sr a diplomat and lawyer.

Detroit July 7 investigation into the apparent murder of ten month old Alfred Cock Ting Jr. concluded the infant died from a birth ailment. Wayne County medical examiner Frederick D. Newhart said a status symphaticus report would be issued after an inquest.

Three year old Rol Westeronk of Waverly Virginia swallowed a cogwheel from a toy. Doctors at University Hospital Philadelphia performed bronchoscopic removal after earlier attempts at a Petersburg hospital failed. The child’s breathing was endangered but he is expected to return home tonight with his father George Westerook.
Ambassador James B. Sheffield arrived in Rapid City for a three day conference with President Coolidge on Mexican affairs and his possible resignation. He indicated a preference to leave public life and suggested no change in U S policy toward Mexico would result from the talks.
