Harrisburg July 5 The sudden death of W. Harry Baker shocks Republican leaders who planned to name a successor as secretary of the state senate and Republican state committee after his funeral Friday. Senate pro tem Horace W. Schantz may appoint an interim secretary until the 1929 session as Mellon leaders decide whether to fill the two vacancies or wait for the senate and committee to elect.
Honolulu July 6. Richard Grace whose plane was damaged after a flight toward California has been ordered to return by steamer to California and abandon current Mainland plans. Major Grant E Bolge of Los Angeles backs Grace and aims to fund a new plane for a potential California to Hawaii Dole Prize attempt.
Prince Friedrich Sigismund of Prussia died in Lucerne after his horse shied and dragged him around a track at a horse show. He was related to Kaiser Wilhelm I. The death followed injuries from the accident on July 6.

Liberia today paid in full its war debt to the United States. A check for 353,600 was tendered to acting Secretary of the Treasury Diills, settling principal and accrued interest. A Mellon letter praised Liberia as the first nation to liquidate World War I obligations, noting the heavy burden on its 4,000,000 population.
At Geneva the naval limitation talks stall in deadlock but show compromise efforts. American British and Japanese delegates hold informal sessions with Japan pressing for a united stance on cruiser tonnage and submarine types. British, defending prewar strength, argues for modest cruiser numbers and small defensive submarines to protect trade routes.
