Secretary Kellogg advocates a global treaty banning submarines while praising a massive U S fleet and air power. The house appropriations committee approved a treasury and post office appropriation bill carrying $2,298,696,190 for the next fiscal year. It includes $13,000,000 for federal prohibition enforcement and funds for coast guard and customs service activities. Prohibition bureau total stands at $12,729,140. Navy coastguard upkeep totals $28,902,570 with three new rail-chasing vessels planned. Continued on page two.
Warren county appears in a statewide rise in hunting license registrations for 1927. Official figures from the state treasurer and game commission indicate 4,561 licenses issued in the county, with non resident hunters up 1,300 from 1926 while resident hunters decline. County breakdown shows Allegheny leading, followed by Luzerne and Philadelphia, with Warren listing 4,361 licenses among others.
A young buck racing two New York Central trains near Torpedo on Tuesday morning crashed into a fence, breaking its neck. Game Protector Elmer H. Nelson of Sheffield reported the 90 pound buck’s death to Warren and Sheffield children’s homes will receive the carcass. A trainman witnessed the incident at 8 30 and notified the constable who alerted Nelson. The antlers were shed and the hide will be disposed of in Warren.

Washington reports that a recount of Pennsylvania senatorial election ballots stalled at the outset as Senator elect William S. Vare’s representatives withdrew from both Reed committee investigations. Charges claimed the counting groups favored William B. Wilson. Withdrawals were temporary as parties consulted their advisers. recounts were then to proceed.
James H. Perks president of the borough council backed Burgess Chapman in open council to form a committee. The ordinance committee will confer with the burgess and Borough Solicitor Sidney Blackman to consider a 9 p m curfew for under 16s. Curfews in Pennsylvania cities use a warning signal and are enforced by patrols.
A school bus carrying about a score of children to Hickory township high school overturned on an icy hill near Sharon Pennsylvania. Driver Julius Christy and two students Joseph Garrison and Mildred Lees were hospitalized with lacerations and bruises while the others escaped with minor scrapes.
King George announced at the Parliament opening that Britain is studying a draft arbitration treaty to replace the Root treaty. He said it would be considered with the Dominions and stressed the empire's shift to equal partnership and continued peace efforts with the League of Nations and foreign powers. He also cited improved conditions in China amid ongoing international concern.
The borough council set an equal salary schedule for War Ren's police and fire chiefs. Fire Chief C. M. Gordon was raised to 190 dollars monthly after reelection, while Police Chief George Haehn remained at 190 dollars as a unanimous ballot kept him in post.
A large attendance is expected at the Kiwanis Club luncheon on Wednesday noon at the Woman's Club with 130 reservations by Tuesday noon. The Red Arrow Quartet of the Pennsylvania Railroad, famed from radio concerts, will perform, marking its first appearance here. Guests will include Robert Fries, Buffalo Division superintendent of the Pennsylvania Railroad, and L. B. Sisson, quartet manager and P. R. B. News editor, as well as invited guests from Warren service clubs.
Miss Catherine Hesch, a Sub-High student of 203 Central Avenue, became seriously ill after swallowing bichloride of mercury tablets mistaken for aspirin Sunday night. Doctor J R Durham treated her. hospital admission was denied by family. Her father is superintendent of Riverside Acid Works.
The Warren County Agricultural Extension Association annual meeting will be held in the county courthouse chambers Wednesday morning. Speakers include Laura Pinder Meadville home economist and J B R Ziesenheim Harrisburg master farmer. Dagmar Wulff Warren Erie counties home economist will be introduced. R H Duntley Corydon will preside as officers are elected and routine business is conducted.
Severe earth tremors were felt at the naval radio station in Cordova Alaska late last night. The quakes lasted about ten seconds and moved east and west. George Sarvis, manager of the Library Theatre, will sing two groups of songs on a radio program from WLW Oil City at 9 30 p m Wednesday.

Washington February 7. Arrangements are made among senate factions for adoption of the Johnson resolution authorizing an investigation of conditions in the bituminous coal strike regions of Ohio Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Amendments may limit the inquiry. Chairman Watson says a brief hearing is set for Friday. John L Lewis UMW president will present a plea with possible opposing views. The resolution is expected to be reported to the senate.

Washington Feb 1 Hoover will enter the Ohio presidential primary. His friends say he has decided to accept the challenge of Senator Willis of Ohio, who wants a Willis delegation at Kansas City. An Ohio Hoover committee formed to push the entry, with decision expected in days. Hoover plans to contest several primaries but skip Indiana Illinois Nebraska where favorite sons run. The Ohio fight involves patronage fears and sharp opposition from Burton supporters. Other candidacies are shaping up as Lowden supporters weigh their options.

A broad low pressure area covers plains and central valleys bringing cloudy skies and widespread rain east of the Rockies.
