Four dead as auto struck by train at Ohio crossing

Four persons died when a car returning from a dance was struck by the Red Wing Express at a grade crossing on the Daniel Webster highway in Tilton New Hampshire. The car was carried about 200 feet by the locomotive. Three died instantly and the fourth died minutes later. Roy Asa Haynes of Ohio is named president of a $2,000,000 fire insurance company in Washington with no clear link to the earlier crash.

Prisoner in Allegheny jail breaks knee cap while escaping fourth floor

Charles Henry, 24, awaiting removal to the Allegheny county workhouse, lowered himself from the Warren County jail fourth floor using a makeshift rope. He injured a knee cap and head after a sheet tied to a window grate parted during the descent. Police and Sheriff Grosch recovered him on the courthouse steps and he was taken to a hospital. Henry had planned the escape with care, including a improvised rope from two blankets, and carried a sheet and clothes for the climb. The incident mirrors a prior escape by Axel Thorn, who used a similar method. Continued on Page Thirteen.

Rescued From Well After 30 Hours Buried Alive

Worcester Mass Aug 27 Fred Leneau 37 of Auburn survived being buried alive for 30 hours at the bottom of a 40 foot well. Pulled to surface with the help of an air hose and rope he faced a crowd of 10 000 as volunteers freed him. He regained response and was taken to City Hospital for treatment with electrical therapy and nourishment. The rescue halted fears of a fatal cave in with his arm partially paralyzed but expected to recover.
