Shirley Glover seventeen and her father P F Glover of Titusville were hospitalized after a Erie railroad engine struck their auto at the South Mein Street crossing in Union City. The girl suffered internal injuries and is reported in grave condition while her father sustained fractured ribs and other injuries. Roger Williamson of Union City was the other occupant of the car.
J Ogden Armour, Chicago meat packer, died in London. His body will be brought back to Chicago aboard the likely liner Berengaria, with funeral plans possibly set for August 23. Armour’s fortune, once over 100 million, has reportedly dwindled to under 20 million after wartime losses and business shifts.
Boston August 17 Massachusetts resembled an armed camp as the State Supreme Court prepared to rule on the fate of Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti. After a bombing yesterday at the East Milton home of juror Lewis Mc Hardy authorities heightened security while the court considers a decision within six days. If the full bench rules against the condemned anarchists Sacco and Vanzetti face possible execution by electric chair, with a potential U S Supreme Court appeal potential loophole.
The body of Elbert H Gary chief of U S Steel was borne from Chicago's New York Central station to Wheaton where he will lie in state at Gary Memorial Methodist Church. James Farrell president of U S Steel joined the funeral train. a crowd of laborers and city officials watched as floral tributes followed the wagon.
