Flood waters from a Erie Barge Canal break three miles west of Albion at Eagle Harbor endangered homes and thousands of acres of fertile farmland in Central Orleans county. The breach last night risks widespread inundation across the area.

McManaway surrendered claiming self defense. The mine has been open shop amid clashes. Don McGill urged Governor Donahey to send troops. Merz died while returning from guarding the property. a foreman was assaulted earlier that day.
A strong tremor struck Los Angeles at 4 25 am. It was felt as far north as Ventura and as far south as Fort Centro. No damage was reported though Pasadena downtown buildings swayed and Long Beach Santa Monica Venice also felt the quake.
Harrisburg report says members of the 101 Wild West show troupe faced a vaccination check by state and city medical officers upon arrival. One member was to be vaccinated before they could perform in the city limits.
York Aug 4 U P A heated struggle for State Commander of the American Legion opened the Pennsylvania Department convention with over 500 delegates and large veteran attendance. State Commander Robert B Vail led the session as James Deighan reported 39 of PA Posts met or exceeded quotas and 2000 Legionnaires planned to attend Paris world convention.
Ambassador Hugh S Gibson told the Geneva arms conference closing session that failure to reach agreement should not deter efforts toward substantial naval armament limitations. The speech text was released by the State Department and had been approved by officials. Gibson added he believed Britain exaggerated concerns about American freedom of action in cruiser tonnage limits.

Canton Ohio Aug 4 Saranay A Lengel former chief of police was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of Don R Lett editor Judge Frank M Clevenger overruled his motion for a new trial Lengel convicted July 16 of first degree murder The jury spared him from the electric chair by mercy recommendation He will be taken to the penitentiary soon to join existing co conspirators now serving life sentences and others sentenced to five to twenty years Appeals will be pursued with a judge from another district requested to hear the case
George Collins who faced murder charges in Bowigin, and Walter Perry, his injured accomplice, died and were hurt when their speeding car struck a telegraph pole during a police chase in Rockaway Reach. Perry, with a fractured skull, told officers they stole the auto in Edgemere and were bound for New York.
Four people die when an eastbound Memphis Southern railway passenger train struck an automobile in Knoxville Tennessee. Three are said to be children of C A Griffith a wealthy operator. Milas Williams a chauffeur for Griffith is the fourth. No train crew injured. Mrs Williams and her baby were seriously hurt.
Stroudsburg report says 10 year old George Diminick of Shawnee died in a hospital after four days of artificial respiration to combat Landry's paralysis. The tragedy follows two similar cases in the Midwest and South where youths near his age suffered respiratory paralysis.
In Philadelphia Finley Davies age 10 of Mt Airy slept at the wheel as his car on East Park Drive crashed through a railing and fell 12 feet into the Schuylkill River. A passerby saw the wreck and Davies was pulled from the water by two fire companies after a nearby firehouse response. In Altoona a railroad worker named Sant Louni was killed when crushed between two engines at a Juniata coaling station during coupling.
Two blasts at the Post Office Department Building in Washington caused about 2000 government employees to flee in fear of Sacco-Vanzetti ties. The shocks came from a glycerine gun demonstrated by R F Alder of a Springfield Arms Co. in a solicitor’s office. A demonstration launch.
Geneva August 4 President Coolidge's naval disarmament conference collapsed after a bitter closing plenary session. Britain Japan and the United States failed to reach a binding agreement on limits for submarines destroyers and cruisers. England's final proposals were read but no resumption was planned.
