Two local aviators, John Drutz and Mex Litle, were forced to make an emergency landing near Pleasant Gap after a Jersey shore flight. Their plane struck a telephone pole, toppled it, and crashed into the fronts of two houses and a porch, with no injuries reported.
Crowds filled the old Third Avenue building for the final Methodist service at 6:15 PM. A dedication ceremony followed at the new church at 3 PM with organ and chimes concert from 6:30 to 7:30 PM. Bishops and clergy took part in the day’s historic events.
A large crowd attended morning worship in the old church building. Bishop Berry lauded Rev. Greer and the congregation for a successful effort with remarks on funding and the future use by Evangelicals, praising the community and noting the building will remain a church, not a business block.
The formal dedication of the nearly finished Methodist Episcopal church drew a huge crowd with doors opening at two and more than a thousand parishioners turned away. Bishop Berry and Bishop McDowell led the service with Rev Greer, Rev MacDonald, and District Supt. Austin J. Rinker among the clergy. The sermon centered on John 14 8 14 and the building committee presented the keys to Rev Greer who thanked supporters and noted the work completed.
Media Police continued probing a wood pile site a mile north where the forearm of a woman wrapped in rags was found by James and Mery Gilmore aged five and seven. They fear connections to the Anna May Dietrich case whose dismembered body was nearby a year ago and note suspect David L. Marshall is imprisoned for that murder. Police and parents led detectives to the scene near Sycamore Hills Edgemont Township and extended the search into the night.
