Sir Alec Guinness Rejects NBC Offer to Endorse Beer
Sir Alec Guinness refused a proposed NBC role featuring twelve episodes of a 39 half hour series with beer endorsements. He criticized the plan as inconsistent and offensive for a top entertainer to act as a commercial pitchman. NBC reportedly dropped the beer sponsorship condition. CBS arranged with the New York Philharmonic and Leonard Bernstein for concerts and Young People's Concerts set for 1961.
