Members of Warren high's student council staged a 99 cent car wash at the high school and Beaty parking lots to raise funds for bringing a foreign student to the local school next year. A second car wash by the "new veteran washers" is planned for this Saturday.
This Week reports on Conenango Avenue sewer inadequacy and a diversion plan that fails to prevent floods. Warren County discusses a Free Press Law proposal for April as a symbolic month. Forest County highlights the addition of an NBC TV Station to the area.
A 1957-58 budget of 1 090 188 64 was tentatively approved by the Warren Borough School Board Monday night. Despite a $125 000+ increase over the current budget there will be no additional tax levy. Receipts total about 430 000 from taxes and per capita charges. Final action set for May meeting. Also reported: final inspection of the Jefferson building and state reimbursement to be determined in Harrisburg. March bills approved total 33 775 29 with various payments and reimbursements noted. New staff appointments include Fred Bell to head summer tennis. Mary Elliott hired as elementary teacher. Pauline Newman named dental hygienist.
TB Patch Test program runs since March 4 with about 7000 elementary students tested for tuberculosis signs. Eliza beth Smith administers patches at Beaty school alongside Frank Foster and others in a group photo. Also noted YWCA meeting as Warren forms a new Women’s Chorus and a cancer fund drive asks for donations to support eye piece micrometers hematocrit readers and sterilizers.
