Death of Capt. Louis M. Clark Told by Iowa Teacher

Letter from Miss Katharine M. Young in the Iowan Malvern Iowa dated Aug 4 1903 recounts the Manila Philippines episode. It details insurgent actions leading to Clark’s death, trials of seventy prisoners, four bound over, five sentenced to death, life and long sentences for others, and the transport of prisoners to Bilibid. It notes the band’s formation, the jail break at Mainit, a planned attack timed with church bells, and the 66 prisoners tied to a rope to the boat at the wharf awaiting transfer. The execution of the five was expected in November after Supreme Court review.
