California old Fernando knew before the gringo came

Tige Faces Paralyzed Dixon and Dark Resolve

Dixon, paralyzed after a long illness, lies helpless as Tige devotes months to his care at a ranch house. When longing becomes love she vows to stay, and amid family opposition plans to remain. On the final night she contemplates ending his life to spare him a future of slow dying. She ultimately intends to act but the revolver fires, saving him, as she hides the truth and faces an uncertain departure.
