A 19th century note recalls a patient asking a doctor for beer claiming illness was chronic. The doctor replies that beer is Teutonic. The item is part of a local column full of notices, travel notes, social events and advertisements from Warren, Pa.
Last week's session closed Saturday noon with heavy WCTU and citizen presence for the Erickson license case hearing. Grand Jury discharged after reporting on fifteen bills with thirteen true and two not true. county institutions deemed satisfactory. Recommendations for County Jail alterations and new barn at Rouse Hospital approved. Judge Lindsey fined and jailed several defendants, including Charles Faran and Charles Wheeler, with family intercession noted. Erickson license petition denied reopening. no license revocation found. Court moved to civil cases with a non-suit in Howaffl H. Clark Co. vs Warren Savings Bank. Wheeler & Wilson Mfg. Co. vs G L Smith & Co. yielded a plaintiff verdict.
At the Court House last Tuesday E D Stewart of Warren County Grange and R J Weld of the State Board of Agriculture met citizens from Chandler's Valley Youngs ville Limestone Corydon and Scandia to locate two farmers institutes in Warren county next winter Scandia and Limestone were chosen with time deferred until next September Good speakers will be present and meetings will aim to be both interesting and instructive.
John H. Fuellhart of Youngsville Pa advertises Pride North seed corn at 80 cents per bushel. Quit-claim deeds mentioned with new lot recently printed for sale at the Mall Office.
Real estate transfers listed include Hubert A. Lane transferring Pine Grove properties for 1750 dollars to F. E. Thompson and to W. G. Jenkins. Other deeds cover Glade Warren Conewango Eldred Pleasant and Tidioute areas with prices from 1 to 2200 dollars.
Mephisto the high priced feature with the Robinson Shows performs in Warren on Thursday June 18. The dare-devil rides an automobile on a dome perch, looping a barrel shaped track at great speed and returning to the arena to thunderous applause.
The final arrangements for the last reunion of the Pennsylvania Reserve Corps are announced. It will be held in Harrisburg on June 24 and 25 with headquarters at Commonwealth Hotel starting June 23. Regimental tents, a reception at the court house, Gov. Pennypacker and Mayor McCormick presenting welcomes, and a 10 o'clock business meeting on Thursday follow. General Henderson to give the response at the reception.
Titusville claims first in the state to adopt the Good Roads Law with funds from township, county, and state sources totaling about 30 000 for road construction from Titusville to Hydetown and a northern extension. Subscriptions push the project toward a 5 0000 total, with the state commission deciding road materials. The Fishermen's train expands service on the Oil Creek line, while Kossuth Encampment plans a three degree drill and banquet. Local notes report rabbits raised by Mrs Amann and Allen at Liberty street.
Local notices list a series of weddings in Warren and nearby towns from June 4 to May 28 1903. In Rochester New York on June 3 1993 Benjamin F Sloan aged about 81 died at the home of his daughter Mrs Clara McNaughton. He was formerly postmaster at Erie Pennsylvania editor of several newspapers and remembered by Warren's older citizens as a good man and a faithful public servant.
Monday June 8 1903 Mr and Mrs George H Siggins announce the birth of a son. The brief item notes the new arrival in their family with the traditional birth notice style.
Jacob Keller the tailor has moved to a new building on Penn Avenue offering a large store and shop with the latest Spring and Summer cloths for men and boys. He invites customers to call and highlights a large stock of ladies skirts sold at very low prices.
The Erie Railroad Company offers a summer excursion to Greater New York on June 16 for patrons and the public. Tickets are valid on all trains including vestibuled limited, with return by June 21. Jamestown round trip $11, children half fare, other stations proportionate. Apply to Ticket Agents for Pullman.
The Carnival Industrial issue for Jamestown New York will publish on the 25th instant with extra copies circulated in Warren and Warren County. It will cover Carnival news and Warren industries, churches, schools, businesses, and government. Ads due by the 15th to Bradford Pennsylvania office.
