The Second Auxiliary, a missionary society of First Presbyterian, gathered Friday afternoon at Mrs. Fred P. Hue’s home at Market and Fourth streets for their meeting.
At the January 26 annual meeting, C N Payne J P Jefferson M W Jamieson W W Beaty Jerry Crary J B Crawford Joseph Seep L B Dryer and L L Graham were elected directors. Officers named include Payne president Jefferson vice president Filler secretary treasurer Kitchen assistant secretary treasurer Dryer comptroller Crawford general manager and Graham manager title and tax. The firm also adopted a pension plan offering 50 percent of average pay for the first year after retirement at 65, then 25 percent thereafter for eligible officers with 20 years service.
The home of Carl Moore on Spring Street near Chesnut Street burned to the ground late Saturday, with the family escaping in nightclothes. Fire crews from Struthers Hose Station arrived as flames consumed the structure, causing an estimated loss of 2500 dollars.
Russell resident Mrs. L D Marsh a leading local figure and DAR member died at 8 40 p m age 69 She was born August 27 1841 in Russell married James Marsh November 18 1869 after years in Warren and Europe health issues followed a trip abroad last April
Mrs. Mary Silk, 62, Irish native and Oil City resident, died Sunday morning of heart trouble triggered by excitement after a neighbor's house fire. Survived by husband Michael Silk and siblings in Corry Kane Warren and Oil City. funeral held at St. Joseph's Warren.
Theodore W. McNett a longtime undertaker and leading local citizen died at his home 110 Pennsylvania Avenue West after a lengthy illness of Brights disease and related ailments. Born January 19 1847 in Jamestown New York he moved to Warren as a child and built a career in furniture and funeral directing. Surviving are his wife Eunice Dalrymple daughter Florence two brothers and a sister. Funeral services are set for Thursday at 2 30 PM at his residence.
Edgar Peterson son of Mr and Mrs Frank L Peterson of Mt Jewett Pa died at the family home Friday aged 18. He is survived by his parents a brother Mildred Peterson four uncles and two aunts. The remains were taken to Jamestown Tuesday and the funeral was held at 10 am at the home of Mrs Anna Lawson 326 Price Street.
Mrs Mary C Cable wife of George W Cable died at her home in Cable Hollow January 28 1910 aged 38 born in Buffalo New York August 26 1872. She lived in Dunkirk until moving to Cable Hollow the last 16 years and leaves a husband six children and her mother and sister in Jamestown New York. Funeral at D J Bennet residence Akeley Pennsylvania with interment in Hale's cemetery.
The Struthers Hose Company held its twenty second annual hall dance Friday in the new Armory with about two hundred couples in attendance. Palm and fern decorations plus flags and electric lights adorned the hall. Retterer's orchestra provided music and midnight lunch was served at Powers Cafe. The event was described as one of the most delightful of the hose company’s many balls.
Benjamin F. Scott died at his Pittsburg home on January 31 after a long illness. He was about 70, survived by his wife formerly Miss Ellen Towle of Warren, two daughters and a son, a brother Winfield Scott, a sister Miss Mary L. Scott of Warren, and other relatives. He formerly lived in Warren and the surrounding area.

Joan N. Gerow, 65, a prominent Warren County resident, died at his Grand Valley home after a paralysis diagnosis. Civil War veteran and former hotelier. he operated the Gerow House in Grand Valley 1809 to 1895, later Hotel Grandin in Corry, and a restaurant in Tionesta. Survived by wife, eight children, father I B Gerow, two brothers D T and Marvin, one sister Mrs Emma Drake. active in Grand Army and Masons.
The Blue Stocking Club gathered Thursday afternoon at Mrs. J. W. Kitchen’s East Street home for a social afternoon. The event celebrated the home-coming of society president Mrs. Edward Lindsey, recently returning from New England.
Dexter D. Dorn, aged 60, died at his home 47 Baker Street Jamestown at 4 15 this morning. Survived by wife Emma B. Dorn son Ralph W. Dorn and grandson Richard Gordon Dorn of Denver one brother DeWayne Dorn of Russell Pa two sisters Edna Marks Douglass N D and Della Northrope of Jamestown. Born Farmington Pa Sept 26 1849 he worked 17 years as station agent and telegraph operator at Watts Flats then moved to Jamestown in 1887 opened a law office and practiced until his death. A member of First M E church and its official board he was active in the Prohibition party and Jamestown Bar Association. Funeral Friday at 2 p m from the home burial Lake View cemetery.
The obituary notes a respected figure beloved for kindness and aid to the sick and afflicted. Services were held at the residence on Saturday at 2 o clock p m conducted by Rev A M Lockwood, and the loss will be mourned by the entire community.
Samuel Park of 54 Locust Street died January 26 from catarrh of the stomach after a brief illness. He was 73 on May 29 and survived by a wife and eight children, including Milo Park and Jer ome Park, plus a brother James Park. Born in Albany, New York, he lived near Warren since age four and was a wagonmaker by trade. Funeral services were held Friday at Salem Church on Pennsylvania Avenue East, with interment in Oakland Cemetery.
Agricultural and Experiment Station at The Pennsylvania State College hosts Farmers Week in Greenville from March 14 to 18. Western Pennsylvania farmers, stockmen and fruit growers will attend four days of lectures and livestock judging with daytime sessions and evening illustrated talks.
Mrs Clementine W Thompson died Thursday afternoon at 4 o clock at her Clarendon residence after ten weeks of illness from a general nervous breakdown. Born in 1841 at Glade Mills Butler county she lived in Clarendon many years. Survived by son J R Thompson Warren two daughters Mrs Irvin Ford Tulsa Okla and Miss Nellie Thompson Clarendon sister Miss Charlotte White Wayne Neb and brother Mr James White Kadoka S Dak Dr. Thompson was a devoted M E church member with high ideals.
