New York Vote Confidence For Bates Seward In 1860
The paper asserts any Republican candidate for President can carry New York by about twenty thousand votes. It states New York is a backbone Republican state, likely to send a unanimous 35 electoral votes for Seward if he is nominated. If Bates is chosen, enthusiasm is lower but many who won’t back Seward will back Bates. Regardless of Chicago’s nominee, New York’s vote is seen as practically assured. Also notes Jamestown District Association meeting in Warren with sermons and debates, and local notices on millinery opening and hotel quality.
