Widespread flooding from days of heavy rain floods towns along the Allegheny and French Creek. Titusville reports rising waters and ice, while Cambridge and Erie face submerged districts, rail washouts, and halted service. Coleman's restaurant in Erie Gains praise as the city awaits repairs and recovery efforts.
In Sugar Grove Pennsylvania a seven year old boy struck a cap with a hammer on an old pistol whose weak spring hid a misfire. The bullet entered Mrs. Gage’s head from behind the ear, exiting above the other side, a wound feared fatal. Separately, Princeton University entrance tests will be held in Pittsburgh June 15 16 1893 with a $25 prize for the top exam taker and information available from Geo R Wallace.
The 1893 Decoration Day notice from the Grand Army of the Republic urges solemn commemoration of fallen comrades. It calls for Memorial Day services May 29 and 30, school and minister involvement, and cross-postal cooperation with auxiliary groups to honor those who served in the Civil War.
