Prominent citizen George P. Orr was thrown from a buggy in a runaway near Irvineton. Right temple gash and several wounds left him unconscious. doctors doubt his recovery as he remained in a critical condition at 11 AM. Cogswell Bowman and Orr were in the party. horse bolted after seat detached.
Lancaster reports Abe Buzzard the notorious outlaw talked for over an hour on the mountain with newspaper men. He complains his nine year sentence was too long, claims innocence, says he may not be taken alive, and admits stealing to support his family while denying ties to the local gang. He offers to aid as a detective to rid the area of crime.
Commodore Cornelius K. Garrison died at his Park Avenue residence in New York at 1 o'clock yesterday from paralysis of the heart. His death was painless and he remained conscious to the end. His young wife, daughter Mrs. Vanauken, and two family physicians were at his bedside and he spoke cheerfully moments before passing. The end came quietly and was known only to the doctors for some moments.
Meadville Pa May 5 The Health Officer reports six smallpox cases to date. Two are well three are improving under physician care. One patient Hattie Gundacker died April 29 from complications that arose during recovery from smallpox.
The Luzerne county grand jury says a precedent should be followed elsewhere. Courts are clogged by trivial complaints and petty quarrels that waste records. Luzerne dismissed about eighty such cases, placing the cost on complainants and predicting fewer groundless actions in the future.
Maggie Mitchell, the perennial favorite, will appear at Library Hall this evening in The Pearl of Savoy. The Buffalo Courier notes Miss Mitchell began a week long engagement, bringing her popular act to local audiences.

Mrs Annie Wittenmyer will lecture at the Baptist church on Thursday evening May 12 on camp and hospital experiences from the Civil War. A male quartet will sing camp songs. Her talk covers sieges and battles including Vicksburg and Pittsburgh Landing, drawing strong audience applause. Admission is 25 cents.
James W. Kitchen found a nickel plated Expert Columbia bicycle at home after dinner, a token from his employers H. A. Jamieson & Co. The nine year longtime bookkeeper has shown faithful service from high school to firm leader, earning evident employer esteem.

May 5 item notes numerous candidates and local blunt hints about May garden and court cases. A Parker Phenix note reports a theft from Taz Waneen Savers office of a galley of the mailing list.
Local notices describe a burglary spree around Lottsville with entry via a broken window at John Lott's workshop and theft of a few chisels and a coat. Neighbors spot suspicious activity, a dog guards households, and warnings are issued about the burglars likely aiming to raid Dr. Whitney's store next.

Burgess, once of Warren, moved from Defiance Iowa to Omaha Nebraska. Dr Reverdy B Stewart returns from Richmond County Virginia after a few weeks visit. Mrs J M Clapp returns from two weeks with friends in Pittsburg and New Castle. Mrs Gillmore travels to New York on Wednesday to buy summer millinery and plans to bring back a full assortment of latest styles. Major James has moved for the twenty fifth time into the Beck house on Fifth street after two years in the prior home.
The Tidioute gas works caught fire again with the gasometer house in flames. Firefighters quickly controlled the blaze, leaving a charred shell. damage amount unknown. Nearby pipes thawing ease water supply as townsfolk discuss licenses and temperance efforts amid local notices and upcoming events.
News from the field reports several oil attempts across the region. Walkerman & Co on the Eddy lot strike a good for 100 barrels per day with 40 feet of sand. Truby on the P. Smith farm is a dry hole at 900 feet. Verbeck’s well shows sand with no oil. Shultz’s new well yields 12 barrels. Columbia Oil Co No 17 and Grossenburg lot at Stoneham are at 735 feet. Steelsmith & Co prep No 4 on Weaver. Duke and Shirley at Kinzua have a good showing but salt water. Beecher & Co drill No 2 in a dry streak. Sherman's No 2 at Kipana is dry, while No 118 yields 8 barrels. Public reception at L. D. Wetmore residence hosted by Y W C T U features young ladies in costume and Warren Male Quartette on May 11 with ice cream and cake at 25 cents.
