A Mansfield man told Hon. Henry C. Hedges he would locate buried treasure from a two‑part hoard of twenty‑eight thousand dollars. He described a magnet device to detect gold and promised to dig further, aiming to uncover a wealth allegedly hidden by an English family in 1812.
Hunter Jack Osborn tracked a large otter in Baldwin creek near Lander. His dog Dipper pursued and killed the otter after a hard chase, but died from wounds sustained in the fight. Osborn found a 27 pound male otter and honored the brave dog’s sacrifice as the animal was hauled onto the ice.
The Marysville Appeal describes a grand lemon tree at Charles Binney’s residence in Marysville California. The tree stands about twenty feet tall and yields hundreds of lemons weekly with thousands more ripening.
