Massive riot erupts in Chicago as 6 000 workers rally outside McCormick plant. Police clash with strikers firing shots and clubs. One officer injured, Casey saved from lynching as mob scatters after sustained gunfire and predawn alarms.
The Chautauqua season will include a church congress with Dr Hall lectures on theology and politics from July 1 to 10. A teachers retreat July 10 to August 21, a six week language school July 31 to August 8, and a missionary conference August 3 to 24. The thirteenth annual assembly begins August 18 with C L S C commencement August 18. Gate closes June 28. Admission rates: June July 25 cents daily, $1 weekly. August 40 cents daily, $2 weekly. full season ground ticket $5. six week general exercise tickets $12.
L. B. Wood and Co No. 7 due last week with Nos. 8 and 9 being rigged. Oil City parties put gown wells on the Kelley farm a quarter mile from Grand Valley. The April meteorological summary reports a mean temperature of 58.4 degrees, higher than the previous eight years. It records a low of 20.3 on the 4th and a high of 84.4 on the 24th, with northeast winds and a total movement of 65.45 miles. Total precipitation reached 2.70 inches.

A Boston Journal report cites a long-standing diplomatic claim that Herr Most of Austria’s Socialists was allegedly an Austrian secret service asset. It says he provided leaders and locations of the Socialist party in exchange for gold, was jailed briefly, then released to depart Austria. The supposed payment details are said to be known by a person in this city.
A series of burglaries is reported in Glade and surroundings. Jake Baldensperger loses a $25 watch and chain to a street fakir selling a whip in front of the Savings bank. ER B Lacy’s house on Buyano railroad track area is ransacked. a valise, silverware, a revolver, cash, and clothing missing. A man seen carrying a satchel and overcoat near the Lacy home matched the description. Early Tuesday, Mrs Atridge’s store near the Davanp depot was entered. an apple and other items were thrown at her as burglars caused a scene. later attempts were made to break into Mr Jennings’ store. Frederick Douglass writes from Boston that he opposed Cleveland but honors his fairness and leadership.
News by wire from Wasinixetox May 2 reports Representative Stahlnecker of New York urging the Rules Committee to report resolutions to investigate Post Office department frauds under Hatton and others. He says the Forty eighth Congress did not have the case and that new evidence will be produced to reopen the inquiry, with seven million dollars at stake.
Smith Buttermore, N. B. Harding and Jesse Smith were found guilty of false pretense and conspiracy for securing $12,500 from the state treasury for a fictitious Connellsville hospital. Verdict came at 7:50 pm after four hours deliberation. Judge Cassidy's vigorous prosecution noted. motion for new trial made. bail continued.
Cleveland will wed Miss Folsom on June 9, a union that has stirred high society in Hamlin Cary Ramsey and related families. The Cary family hosted a grand reception when the president was governor, which sparked rumors of possible betrothal to Miss Maria Love, a relative, though both sides denied the claim.
