Receiving Wes Callers at the White House in 1880s Washington
A vivid sketch of how President Harrison receives visitors, the door keeper Loeffler’s routine learning new congress members, and the busy private secretaries. The piece notes the two classes of callers, the long queues in three ante rooms, and Harrison’s simple, attentive handling of audiences at the executive mansion.
