The Lost Watch Found Off Bird Island Reef
An aging London lord marries a young governess and wagers a fortune to recover a lost watch. In 1870 voyage to Bird Island in the Seychelles, Lord Duff sails with a crew and native divers to search a sunken Arabian dhow said to hold the timepiece. After a week of tides and drag nets, the hull is hauled up in 80 feet of water and the watch is recovered.

Wreck of a Slave Dhow Yields Hidden Treasures and Bones
Divers recount a hard chase and salvage of a shallow dhow sunk by a warship while transporting slaves. Six layered remains contain coins valued around $500, muskets and swords, and a later find reveals the jewel hidden in Lady Duff's empty baggage box. The hunt ties to historical slave trade suppression.

Conundrum and Lamb Anecdotes Spark Gentle Banter
A Boston conundrum quip by Fenderson plays on baldheadedness to explain why an eagle resembles a man. In Chicago a man jokes about missing lamb as his wife calls him, while Philadelphia recalls the waiter measuring a man for steak. The trio depicts light humor from mid century press snippets.
