About midnight a freight wreck near the P E junction opposite Warren derailed two 611 cars. Acid and oil car flames spread rapidly after an engine burial and a nearby tank of oil exploded, narrowly missing spectators. All trainmen escaped, track damage limited, but company losses exceed $20,000.
Ohio headlines report the Republican state convention in Columbus nominating Gov. Foraker by acclamation after a dramatic second ballot shift. Lampson nominated for lieutenant governor. other tickets named, including Hesler and Watson. In Cleveland and Fremont notes, Mrs. Hayes dies at Spiegel Grove after a period of illness.
John Barnes aged about 25 son of S. A. Barnes of Pleasantville Pa and his cousin Henry T. Barnes Tidewater Oil Co employees in New York drowned in the Hackensack river while bathing last Sunday evening. Bodies recovered will be taken to Blairsville Pa home of S. A. Barnes before he moved to Pleasantville.
Gen Simon Cameron died at 8 o clock this evening after a brief spell of weakness. He was conscious and could swallow until the end. Attending were ex-attorney general MacVeagh and wife and other relatives. Funeral will be in Harrisburg. Cameron had a long political career from Harrisburg printing to U.S. Senate and the Lincoln era. His estate was valued at about one to four and a half million dollars. The 16th Regiment encampment will be held in Warren July 20 to 29 with ground rent paid.
Northwestern Pennsylvania prepares for a grand Warren Fourth of July celebration featuring a balloon ascent with parachute descent, rope walking, races, and a full program of events. Highlights include a grand parade, numerous races, fireworks, riding and bicycle exhibitions, and a 9 p.m. fireworks display at the park with extensive prize offerings and safety restrictions.
A Splendid reception was given by Mr. and Mrs. Archie Scofield at their new Market street residence last Tuesday evening. The illuminated house and elegant attire of guests plus music by Coleman's orchestra of Titusville created an impressive scene. Refreshments followed and guests enjoyed a merry evening.
Michael Rizzello alias Red-Nosed Mike was hanged in Wilkesbarre jail yard after being convicted for the 1888 paymaster murder of J Brainard McClure and the robbery of $12,000. Co-conspirators Bevirno Revirno and Vellalli aided the crime, escaping with the plunder before later being tracked to Italy.
Sporting Notes report Dennis Gallagher and Hugh Leonard reaching a deal to wrestle best two of three falls at the Central Opera House in Erie on Monday July 1 for 100 dollars plus 60 and 40 percent of net receipts. Gallagher praised for his conduct improving local opinion. The sixth American Derby was won by Spokane before a record crowd of about 35,000 with betting totaling over a million dollars. Belfast dispatch notes Sullivan’s weight loss and intensive training under Muldoon and Cleary. Sullivan’s companions Barnett and Mike Sullivan were sent home to focus on training.
Prohibition amendment was Thursday repealed by a statewide vote of 28,449 to 9,852, surpassing the required three-fifths of the total. The 1886 adoption had Approve 15,118 and Reject 9,230 in a smaller total vote.

John Dunn a High and Hazel street teamster was last heard from before fishing. He was found unconscious near Ott's Run the next day and died at home after morphine use linked to financial reverses and melancholy spells. He left a wife and two children. funeral was Tuesday.

George B. Williams moves the Adelphia Kitchen to the Exchange block while running a restaurant at the old Diamond block until after the Fourth. The new dining room is the best Warren has seen, with a complete kitchen and a soon to be ready office sitting room for patrons. First dinner in the new place served Thursday, matching Williams' catering reputation. Sunday dinner hour may shift from 5 to 6. Williams thanks patrons for past support and hopes for a continuation. Press wires report a Clan na Gael camp twenty committee, after a formal trial, found Cronin guilty of being a British spy. The charge alleges Cronin aimed to expose alleged malfeasance and seek a public inquiry into orders for government information. Six men from the seven member panel are under surveillance as details emerge.
Mrs. Sarah Jane Whiteling was hanged at 10 07 am in the county prison corridor. The body was taken down at 10 41 am after she endured the ordeal with notable fortitude and resignation, expressing pleasure at meeting her husband and children. She was executed for poisoning her husband and two children with arsenic to claim their life insurance.
A June 24 Johnstown Pa fire consumed twenty houses including a large brick school, destroying many structures washed from foundations. Sparks from burning debris are blamed. a dynamite blast near the bridge released wreckage and bodies, with at least six corpses scattered nearby.
Clark D. Eckles of Cambridgeboro Pa and Miss Mary A. Perry were married at the bride’s East Water street home with Rev J N Fradenburgh officiating. The couple will reside in Cambridgeboro after a brief wedding trip. Both have broad local circles and announce the union through community circles.
