Independence Day at Clarendon ends with joyful displays

A communication from ex editor A. J. Hughes to Port Allegany Postmaster Davis reports forty democratic editors in Atlantic City with thirty six for Cleveland in 1927 and four not opposed. He adds a thousand editors absent are equally in favor of Cleveland in 1892, per the Port Allegany Reporter.

Electrocutions at Sing Sing Carried Out According to Law
Four condemned men at Sing Sing were electrocuted in the death chamber following new anti crime laws. Slocum, Smiler, Wood, and Juggito were strapped in. witnesses reported a painless, instantaneous death with observers noting the machinery worked as intended and the executions were completed without incident.

Death of Hannibal Hamlin at Bangor in 82nd year
Ex vice president Hannibal Hamlin died Saturday night in Bangor Maine after a brief collapse in the Tarratine Club rooms. He was 81 or 82, had long served public trust, and was remembered for running with Lincoln and his stubborn habit of wearing a black swallowtail coat.

Cyclone Devastates Baton Rouge Killing Prisoners
New Orleans dispatch reports a terrible cyclone struck Baton Rouge shortly after 6 am, 300 yards wide, moving southwest to northeast. The disaster killed ten convicts at the penitentiary and injured thirty five, with five in critical condition. At the pants factory, six workers died and twenty were wounded. The central hospital floor contained twenty six injured, including four dead and fourteen seriously hurt.
