Chilean Offer to Settle Baltimore Affair by Arbitration

Rare frontier of death in Pennsylvania inked by seven executions
In 1891 Pennsylvania performed seven executions as the law’s extreme penalty. Homicides estimated around 260. The men executed were William West in Washington on February 20, Henry Murrah in Ebensburg on the same date, George W. Moss in Wilkes-Barre on March 26, Oliver William Spangle y in Mauch Chunk on the same date, Joseph and David Nicely in Somerset on April 2, and John McManus in Philadelphia on December 3.
