Escape From Prison by Tunnel and Disguise in 1860s Case

A prison escape involved George Cunningham a 22 year old inmate aided by partner Girard later revealed as Wilson. Miners dug a 70 foot tunnel under the west wing to an air shaft then into a cottage cellar. Cunningham fled at 5 pm after a false routine, leaving a dummy prison suit. Girard fled with funds and later died, while Cunningham reformed abroad.
