P Johnson Dead Prominent Local Jurist Passes Away
After a brief illness Judge P Johnson died at 4 am Friday aged 83. Born January 31, 1809 in Venango County, he studied at Jefferson College, practiced law in Sunbury and Franklin, formed partnerships in Warren, and served as district president judge for Warren, Erie and Crawford counties. A lifelong Whig and radical Republican, he remained active in public life and in legal practice until his death. The obituary notes his vigor to the end, and mentions a common cold that led to complications and his use of Downs Elixir.
