United States Pipe Line Advances Refined Oil Transport

In September 1892 Pennsylvania formed the United States Pipe Line Company to move crude and refined petroleum from oil regions to seaboard markets, Great Lakes, and beyond. Independent refiners fund and control core lines, independently from the Standard Oil trust. Two trunk pipes run Bradford to Wilkesbarre, 180 miles for crude and 250 miles for refined oil, with later extensions toward Pittsburgh and Philadelphia. The refined line proves refined oil can travel long distances without quality loss.
